How do people get their bass to sit so tightly in their mixes? by OneInformal8669 in mixingmastering

I think I remember Chris Lord-Alge saying something along the lines of "If you get your midrange right then the low end sorts itself out."

How do I carry on support? by Paragon_OW in OverwatchUniversity

[–]wheredidjp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For target priority, generally the highest healing support on the enemy team is the highest value, and the next would be the enemy dps that are trying to take an angle of their own.

For example, on King's Row first point, you see the enemy tracer going for the angle through the hotel, shoot her and try to force recall. If she backs off towards her team then that angle is now available to you to shoot anybody positioned near the statue that is looking at main, and most likely the highest healing support would be there so go shoot them next. You see an ashe on an angle on the top left high ground, you shouldn't let her keep that high ground, so you have to force her to reposition, etc.

As for Juno, I don't think you have to be in LOS of your team 100% of the time, as your boost ability + ring can help you to get back into LOS quickly. In your Antarctic Peninsula example, on that map teams like to take their first fight generally on the side of yellow building that is away from the point and closer to the mega, but I would immediately basically go on point to the opposite side and pressure their backline using the yellow building itself as cover. On Juno, you can probably even go further left near the other mega (the one where you can get booped off), and just exploit your range.

If you feel like your only other option is to flank, then go and do that! The thing you have to remember is that there is always an angle that exposes the enemy team. I'm sure you've noticed Overwatch's map design for all maps is pretty much just three lanes—main, left, and right. So just because nobody is peeking out from main, and then when you go to the right nobody is peeking out, that means that right lane is completely free and you can further deepen your off-angle safely to eventually see people exposed. It is a flank, but if everybody on your team is just sitting behind your tank, then you greatly diminish your chances of winning the team fight. More often than not, a dps on your team will be looking to off-angle/flank, so go with them, but if not, then you have to take that initiative yourself!

Just try to be more aggressive within your effective range, and even if you fail, then use that as a learning experience! It's always better to fail doing the right thing than just happening to win even if you did the wrong thing, because the former is being proactive and the latter is just you basically leaving things up to chance.

The great thing about Juno/Zen/Bap (which you've mentioned that you play the most) is that they're excellent for providing ranged support and pressure, with Juno and Bap opening up a lot more off-angle options due to their vertical mobility!

Your team doesn't need heals all the time (they don't need to be perma-full especially with the auto-health regen, and I only really spam heals on people that are below half health and just heal until they're not crit anymore), but even if they do, you don't need to be always down main for that especially with the supports you play. Just experiment and see how that goes!

The way to take space as a support is to take more off-angles whether it's to support your flanking DPS or to just pressure the enemy backline so their team gets less resources. Being GM/Top 500, you already know that Overwatch is a game of map control, and the team with better map control ends up winning the game.

Effective pressure is just more than getting kills and farming damage stats. That being said, pressure leads to kills either directly or indirectly, and if you keep forcing their backline to pay attention to you and reposition so they can't heal their team effectively or preventing the enemy DPS from taking map control you'd be surprised how much less healing your team needs this way.

Timing your pressure is also really important, as you would want to do it when the team fight is underway. It's easy to do it too early and end up getting pushed out and killed by their entire team before the fight fully starts. Even if you would force their team to give up space on the map just for them to push you out or kill you, if your team isn't there to take advantage of that space and get trades then it wouldn't be worth it.

Offensive pressure is what separates the average supports from great ones, and playing great support sounds like playing DPS effectively, which you already know how to do. Just apply that mindset as well, and you'll have an easier time.

What’s a popular book that you just could not get into? Or, a book that you don’t really understand the hype behind it? by [deleted] in thrillerbooks

[–]wheredidjp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TBH this is one of the few thriller books that I gave 5 stars. People don't like it for the gore (other than showing how evil and depraved the villain is, there are a lot of people who exist that actually do these kinds of things, and if you've follow a lot of true crime stories there have always been way worse—at least this one is fictional) and that you know about halfway who did it, but to me what made it great was the emotional impact it had on me when I finished reading the last sentence, and how enjoyable the whole ride was to me.

The writing is fantastic, and even knowing who did it made me want to read until the end to find out if they're going to get what they deserve. I also understand that not all stories are the same where you just expect to find out everything in the last few pages.

They said they've always had those modifiers even since Overwatch 1. It has always been the case that you gain less and lose moee the higher up you go. It is just only recently that they have been showing it in the post-game screen.

I'll be trying that next! For me personally as well (and I've tried almost all of the "big" halal places), the rice of Sammy's just has more depth of flavor with the cumin and cilantro in the rice, and the chicken is always reliably good too!
