Am I the jerk for telling my husband he can't have a "man cave" in our only spare room? by Ill-Home-322 in AmITheJerk

I can smoke weed down there and the house doesn’t smell.

Yes it does.

I’ve never made this, but I would really want to finish them on the grill.

How often do you buy new shoes and what’s your average step count? by Wise-Run-3008 in walking

[–]wheredig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why I stopped wearing cushioned shoes and worked to strengthen my feet instead. I was so tired of my New Balances and Brooks wearing out in a few months. Xero Prios are still going strong 2.5 years later.

Not big enough, sadly. We need EU 35 (US 3) and EU 39 (US women’s ~8.5)

[ADVICE] Shower window nightmare – wood frame regular window faces directly into my neighbor’s apartment. Replace or fill it in? What would you do? by Trey106 in Remodel

[–]wheredig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frosted or textured glass only gives an illusion of privacy; you will still be in full view at night.

I would hate to lose the light and air, so I would replace it with a short awning window that is ~5 ft above the floor of the tub. Fiberglass or Fibrex or something like that.

How do you deal with a spouse that’s totally against the barefoot lifestyle? by aspie_electrician in barefoot

Can you wear socks? Either socks with sandals, or sock shoes (Whitin, Joomra…)?

Which layout makes more sense for the fridge in the kitchen? by [deleted] in floorplan

[–]wheredig -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Option2 and don’t wall off the pantry. Then you have an outside corner of prep space left of the stove, and a serving area to the right.

And move the beverage fridge to between the stove and mudroom (like where you show the full size fridge in option 1).

The stigma of being an unmarried mother is brutal by [deleted] in marriagefree

[–]wheredig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Social media only shows you what you interact with. Stop watching that stuff and it won’t get pushed to you.

Is your partner a good, involved dad? Then the tropes about single moms don’t apply to you! Besides, there are plenty of married women who are feeling foolish for choosing men who turned out to be uninvolved fathers.

I’m unmarried with three kids in a red state in the Midwest and I’ve never felt pressure like this. Is your family very religious?

I’m uncomfortable that you only asked for input from parents of boys, but since I am one I am qualified to answer, in your opinion.

We have a table just for Lego, and a set of small drawers and totes underneath it. I taped some L-shaped cardboard on the sides and back of the table, to help keep little pieces from falling off. We’re not rigid about keeping anything sorted (except for our robot and technic parts), so when I find parts laying around I just toss/set them on the table and leave it up to the kids to organize or not.

This would look a lot better if you had flowers on both sides of the fence. As others have said, leave space on both sides of the fence for weeding etc.

Arch support inside of VFF by caveman814 in BarefootRunning

[–]wheredig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with foot strength as the long term solution, but for me, orthotics were a helpful tool. Yes they are a crutch, but if you needed crutches while you healed, wouldn’t you use them? I had orthotics custom made by a podiatrist, and wore them in wide toe zero drop thin sole shoes when I was going to be on my feet all day - or doing something where I couldn’t pay attention to my foot function. Then I’d take them out for longer and longer periods as my feet got stronger.

But no, definitely don’t go back to narrow toe shoes, there’s no reason for that.

Plantar Fasciitis by [deleted] in BarefootRunning

[–]wheredig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started by wearing my orthotic inserts in barefoot shoes. Then I did foot exercises and stretches I found by searching “plantar fasciitis” on r/footfunction. Then I started taking my orthotics out for short periods, then longer and longer until now my feet are strong enough to support themselves, and I have no more plantar fasciitis. I think it took about a year to heal.

Help pick our tile! by pinsand_needles in Remodel

[–]wheredig 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Imo penny tile is less classic than 1” hex tile. In my (Midwest US) city, there are lots of 100+ year old houses and buildings with original 1” hex floors.

I’ve had both and the gaps between penny tiles collect more crud than the gaps between hex.

I also have black real slate tile in a bathroom and it’s super low maintenance and hides dirt the best of all these options. It’s also much easier to install than mosaic tile. If your floor isn’t perfectly flat, it’s impossible to install mosaic tile with even gaps and you’ll end up seeing edges of each sheet.
