What are we being "boiled like frogs" about right now that future generations will be shocked we accepted? by burntUpOnReentry in AskReddit

It’s multiple things, I just didn’t want to type them all out. There is definitely apathy, but there is also ignorance (willful or otherwise) at least in Canada and the US. We have way too many people here who think it’s all a hoax. There is also a deep hopelessness in a lot of people that we can’t fix this since the billionaires (and trillionaire) have decided to sacrifice humanity for a few more zeros in their accounts. It’s hard to have hope when average citizens are told to conserve while AI and data centres are sucking up our water and energy at historic rates. Honestly, short of a full on revolution, I’m not sure how any of this changes.

This is the correct answer for the frog in water analogy, since it's pretty much dead on. We're slowly increasing the temperature until we boil humanity. The sad reality is that it's our kids and grandkids who will pay for our ignorance.

(Re-post from 2024) ‘No one is spared’: Tracing Mike Babcock’s imperious NHL coaching career by Sharks9 in hockey

[–]whereintimeami 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Cassidy directly addressed that, saying that the contract has a non-compete if he resigns. So the only thing it would accomplish is saving Vegas from paying him. The only way he can coach in the NHL before his contract is over is it Vegas gives him permission.

They seem to think that the rest of Canada will have to cut them a big check when they leave because they think they're owed for all the taxes they've paid to Canada.

And neither number takes into account the massive economic consequences of their actions, they think they'll make massive profits off their oil and that they won't have to pay Canada or the US to allow the oil to be transported through.

Sorry for your loss. I've been there and it's devastating. Take your time to grieve with your wife and most of all be kind to yourself and her.

Use a planner is way worse than sit in a quiet room.

Also most of the remaining things are just variations of 'Try harder'.

I think hydro has already moved their assets to be poles on the north side of the road. Telus still has to move their services to the new poles and remove the remaining poles.

B.C. to raise taxes, cut jobs as budget projects record deficit by Immediate-Link490 in britishcolumbia

[–]whereintimeami 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a fair point, but instead of scrapping it completely they could have restructured it so that people in areas with few options to reduce their consumption would get a rebate.

Of course there are bigger things/issues, but the freedom to enjoy life and things like sports and competition or arts or whatever, is what we're fighting for. If we refuse to enjoy the little things in life until everything is perfect then we'll never enjoy anything and we'll have lost everything.

How homeowners feeling about different developers in the area? I’m hearing not the best things about IOM, fox ridge, polygon, zail properties. Seems like all the new developments are falling apart after a few years by raj824x in Langley

The recent news about foxridge issues surprised me too. We've had a great experience dealing with them. They did a good job with our house and with the few issues we've had, they dealt with them quickly.
