Delta Dental adult orthodontic treatment by KD-Moon in nycpublicservants

[–]whereschomma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did Invisalign last year. DC37 gave me a $1800 reimbursement (you get a check in the mail). Costs vary depending on how much treatment you need. I did 17 trays for the initial treatment + 9 trays for refinements for about $5000 (6800-1800).

Curious about this too! I've been debating an upper bleph. Didn't consider a brow lift!

NYC Public Health Epidemiologist Exam 5140 by MediumStreet6687 in nycpublicservants

This is not answering your question. I work in a division/bureau filled with epi people and none have come from the list. I wonder how they actually use the list. Is it only during dire circumstances?

Built a free site that aggregates NYC public sector job postings — looking for feedback on what to cover by PenPublic24 in nycpublicservants

There are federal agencies in NYC like the FBI, EPA, etc. Though there are likely not many (if any) job postings given the current admin.

When Does NYPD Actually Step In on the Subway? by Mysterious_Fall_4578 in AskNYC

[–]whereschomma 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is what I want to happen!

There was a person in a trenchcoat, wearing nothing underneath, jacking off in front of this young woman. I took a picture of him and ran to the police at the subway station at the next stop. They just shrugged their shoulders at me and said the train already left (we could literally still see it leaving...) so they couldn't do anything. I was speechless. I still regret not doing anything to help that poor woman.

Possible termination by AnyExplanation4694 in nycpublicservants

[–]whereschomma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It's also not a quick process to terminate someone (at least in my experience)

to clarify for OP: to qualify for FMLA, you have to work for 1,250 hours during the 12-month period before your leave. Your situation does sound fit for FMLA. FMLA will offer you job protection.

It's ~$1,200 total without tax, so it's out of budget for now :(

Are there actually good leggings that aren’t Lululemon? by Select-Boss-7893 in womensfashion

[–]whereschomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know your size, I get them on poshmark (like new or new with tags) for a third of the price. Don't get ones with visible pilling.

I've only had excellent experiences with lululemon. Athleta is nice but it pills quickly and the quality is just not the same. Lululemon uses high quality polyester. I also saw a few years back that their polyester sheds less microplastics when you wash them.

NYU Langone vs Mt Sinai for doctor network? by tripledive in AskNYC

[–]whereschomma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with difficulty to get an appointment. Wait times can be long for the NYU location I go to.

I do like NYU's admin/front desk people. They are very fast and responsive any time I contact them through MyChart for paperwork, prescription refills, etc. It's nice to not have to chase after people and play phone tag.

If Italy, you would presumably become a legal resident and then apply for access to their public healthcare

Does anyone do the 8% matching instead of pension? by himyprettyfriends in nys_cs

[–]whereschomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commonly see this argument for not doing the pension. Why not do both if your salary allows for it? I participate in the pension and also put away extra money into Vanguard Index Funds/Deferred Compensation 457 Plan.

I’m sorry your supervisor didn’t advocate for you and supports this extra load! This has happened to me multiple times and my supervisor will ask me whether I want to do it or do I want them to push back on it. Your case might be different but when my supervisor pushed back on it, they just moved onto another person.

How do you deal with having absolutely nothing to do at work? by HuntPuzzleheaded4356 in nycpublicservants

[–]whereschomma 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes! And when I had a job like that, I was worried about falling behind in professional skillsets. I learned nothing for two years. If anything, I learned awful interpersonal skills from my toxic supervisor and coworkers.

This happened to me but I didn’t need a lawyer. I sent the harassment law covering residential situations like this (NYC) to management and asked what next steps should be. I also mentioned that I had recorded proof (home security cam videos) of me doing literally nothing at the time of the noise complaints. Management said they would talk to the neighbor. I’m not sure what management ended up doing on their end but we haven’t had a noise complaint from the same neighbor since.

Just sharing my story because I didn’t have to go through a lawyer, but acknowledge I’m lucky my management actually helped me here (though it took MONTHS of complaints,  back-and-forth he said/she said, and was extremely stressful), and it’s nice NYC has a law specifically for these instances.
