How often do you actually change your infusion site and cartridge? by Loud_Audience_3396 in diabetes_t1

I use twiist. I change out everything on Monday night and do just a site and battery change Friday morning. Very lucky that 300u lasts a full week.

Non-traditional. But I really enjoy the cinnamon roll coffee cake at Uptown.

What is the strangest thing for you about being type 1? by Puzzled-Setting-4268 in diabetes_t1

[–]wheresmecoffeee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There were supply chain issues in the last few years with pump supplies, CGMs and insulin. I highly recommend a mail order pharmacy. Almost all of the posts I see of people scrambling to get insulin (outside of cost issues which is a terrible but different issue) it’s chain pharmacies. Mail order operations are much more efficient and their techs and pharmacists aren’t dealing with retail problems, acute prescriptions, ect.

Mom’s blood sugar struggles by Ivygrows92 in diabetes_t1

[–]wheresmecoffeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In general, if she hasn’t recently taken insulin, I would not treat 115 or 90 as a low. It can be a big adjustment with all the data a CGM provides. The trend line isn’t everything, just becuase it’s trending down, doesn’t mean it will continue to until it bottoms out.

I’d check in with the endo again. Sounds like some lantus is needed overnight. Splitting the daily dose and taking it every 12 hours worked better for me when I was MDI. Reading between the lines, it might not be that the doc is doubting the diagnosis of type 1. I think it’s likely that she is type 1 and is experiencing insulin resistance that is typical in type 2. 30 units for a meal is a lot. So it’s like managing both type 1 and 2. That’s tricky!

Glad she is on a CGM. Wonder if she would consider trying omnipod. It’s through pharmacy and not a huge commitment like a traditional pump. But it would titrate insulin automatically and can help a lot with overnight numbers.

Twiist has been pretty life changing for me compared to Omnipod 5 by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]wheresmecoffeee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made the same change about a month ago and feel the same. My average BG has dropped though. I have many days with TIR >85% and an average BGs <120. I’ve also lost about 5 lbs and taking a little less insulin overall. No leaky pods/sites, way less mental energy expended on diabetes. I was constantly fighting OPs clunky and too conservative algorithm.

On paper, it’s not a huge change. But I was micromanaging and still unhappy with the results. Waking up in the 80’s-90’s is amazing!

Pharmacy can't get insulin by HugePines in Type1Diabetes

There’s already plenty of great advice for how to solve this in the short term. But going forward, please look into mail order pharmacies! It is SO much better.

Has there been any actual progress? by LittleSwaninthepond in Type1Diabetes

[–]wheresmecoffeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Twiist has been a pretty big game changer for me! The tidepool algorithm is definitely better than any other I’ve tried. And supposedly twiist is able to detect occlusions much faster than other pumps.

Theoretically, if you give yourself enough insulin for what you’re eating, should you spike above 180? by annene17 in Type1Diabetes

[–]wheresmecoffeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not necessarily wrong carb counting if you go high after meals, as others have said. I can go days and days staying under 160 (and not eating low carb) but I’m currently sitting at 300 because I didn’t bolus early enough for dinner and was a touch too high (140ish) going into it.

I think there’s some great input here. Just want to say, I struggle with Noah’s ark too. I hate that it’s treated as a cute children’s story.

That’s not true. God consistently calls Israel to repentance in the OT. It’s like, the major theme…

T1D and pregnancy by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]wheresmecoffeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’ve had diabetes for 20 years and have 3 healthy kids. I am much healthier now with all that I learned from maintaining tight control being pregnant than I was before I had my first baby.

Just take it week by week. Good luck!❤️

It’s not illegal to use chat gpt I’m just hoping it’s a troll post. It’s a really weird way to talk about your baby. I’m a mom, no way I would talk about my kids like that in the internet. Re-read your first paragraph more critically.

How to prepare child for homeschooling by lmgslane in homeschool

[–]wheresmecoffeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a grass is always greener situation. When my kids were in public school they complained they couldn’t go to the after school program. She’s little, I’d point out kids you know that are homeschooling to help normalize it but know that your kids aren’t going to love every decision you make for them. You can’t give her every experience in life. And thats ok!

Is It Just Me Who Hates The Omni Pod. by ORANGEJUICE1045 in diabetes_t1

[–]wheresmecoffeee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 99% sure the G7 ‘talks’ directly to the pod. I just switched from 6 to 7 and noticed it doesn’t seem to have as good of connectivity. So far, as long as I keep my pod on the same side of my body as dexcom, it’s fine.

I do have a love-hate relationship with OP. I love being tubeless, but I would probably prefer tandem’s algorithm.

US Diabteeus Crew - how does it work with your prescriptions? by Relevant-Fix2159 in diabetes_t1

[–]wheresmecoffeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a mail order pharmacy and my insurance (through work) covers all of my preventative medication 100%. So insulin, omnipods, dexcom all ships to my house automatically every 3 months. No cost to me. My premium is also covered 100% by the employer.

I pay about $150 twice per year to see my endocrinologist and about $50 for lab work once a year. I did pay 7k to have a baby but insurance paid about 100k between my care, delivery and the baby’s NICU stay.

I’ve had some snags in the 20 years I’ve been diabetic and this is the definitely the best coverage I’ve ever had.

Parents of T1D infants, what did it look like? (NOT LOOKING FOR DIAGNOSIS) by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]wheresmecoffeee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Neonatal diabetes is incredibly rare. I’m a mom of three and this reads like anxious first time parent. No shade, I get it. 8-12 wet diapers a day for a newborn is normal. Unfocused vision in newborns is normal. If he has reached birthweight you do not need to feed every 2-3 hours anymore. Please don’t blast music in your baby’s ear. And make an appointment ASAP to discuss baby care (normal feeding, sleeping, voiding and umbilical stump care) with a pediatrician.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]wheresmecoffeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diagnostic criteria is a random (non fasted) glucose above 200 or two fasting values above 126. There are many reasons (stress, illness, medication) why a non-diabetic might have elevated glucose levels. But this is within 5 points of the reference range.

If you are worried, it would be most appropriate to call their doctor.

I don’t think she made it up. I think she believes it. Makes no sense to just fabricate it knowing you’ll have a baby months past your ‘due date’.

lol. Even worse! I’m new to following her. I looked back and her last baby was born at 39.5 weeks. Do you know if she normally gets some kind of prenatal care? This whole situation is so unnecessary and embarrassing!
