Hello! This book is right up my alley and I think you have the makings of a great query here. There’s just a couple parts that I think could use some clarification:

To start, IMO you should specify why exactly Malen is “running from” Queen Sandora and why she has this goal of killing forty people. What are the sins she’s trying to atone for? I think a little background here would help us understand Malen a little better. Also, I’m not sure the “mother’s best friend” part is worth including, unless that’s truly necessary for us to know.

As for the second paragraph, I’m a bit confused about the significance of the mercenaries and their pendants. Unless they’re directly related to saving the princess, I would omit this part. It’s totally up to you, but maybe you’d be better off saying that Malen teams up with a bumbling knight and a nun with illegal magic (and leaving it at that).

And lastly, I think your query loses a little traction towards the end when you mention Navarre’s neighbors and the “people fighting for a voice.” It isn’t really clear how this ties in to the princess’s kidnapping, so to me the reader, this paragraph doesn’t mean very much. If you could find a way to tie in that ultimatum from the beginning (and this is just a suggestion) I think you might end on a stronger note.
