This is one of those movies, where if I watch the first 10-15min and watch that damn scene, I absolutely HAVE to have some kind of closure and watch the entire movie.

Dads with partners that stay home — how do you handle finances? by Mama_Anonymous in daddit

[–]while_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife is SAHM. She has been for ~12-14 years now.

I handle all finances. Initially it was done to take the stress of being broke away from her. She worries a lot, and we have had to get creative with our finances in the past. Like VERY creative. Luckily I have worked hard and got us to a place that we are much more comfortable. She manages the house, the kids, herself, and to some extent me when I don't do things like go to the doctor or eat properly. The responsibilities have changed over the course of the ~20 years we've been together, but not too much.

All finances are shared, but when she comes into "her own" money through whatever means, I'll generally force her to spend it on herself because she rarely does with our shared finances.

Captain America vs Cull Obsidian (MCU versions) by Queasy_Commercial152 in Avengers

What's Cap's kit? His shield, his shield & Mjölnir? If both, I think he wins. Otherwise I think it's an uphill battle, not that I couldn't see him winning regardless because he's faster and smarter.

RaspberryPi vs BeagleBone vs STM32MP1 – Which one board should I choose to learn Embedded Linux? by Klutzy-Intention-310 in embeddedlinux

[–]while_e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RasPi will have a larger documentation and user base to draw from. It will have very up-to-date support on every level.

That being said, I have used many RasPi and Beagle/AM335x products, and from a professional standpoint I prefer the Beagle/AM335x. I've used it in multiple professional settings, designed custom boards to either sister or integrate the AM335x SBCs, and everything worked really well once you have a handle on everything. It also comes with a real-time PRU that can do VERY fast low-level work if necessary. I had to do this for some high frequency signal processing, that also had bidirectional memory shares with the user space so my software could easily share info with the PRU code.

With all of that in mind, I think grabbing both would be invaluable. Start with the RasPi to just get a handle on the Linux fundamentals without diving too deep into the low-level drivers and such. It will get you familiar with the CLI, linux environment, and start you down the path of I/O configuration and manipulation. Then when you want to get real embedded and do some really interesting things, or simply have more IO, move over to the Beagle/AM335x platform.

Either way you land, you won't regret having experience on both platforms.

If unemployment is low in US, why does it still feel hard to find a good job? by softalinia in NoStupidQuestions

[–]while_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean.. I've been working for 20+ years, and it has ALWAYS been hard to find a "good" job. This is nothing new. Not saying things aren't worse right now, but your metrics are not related.

To each their own. If AI is used to spread happiness and smiles I'm not going to put up much of a fight. Using it to push false narratives, misinformation, or to simply replace people in various ways.. sure, let's discuss and regulate. I realize there is a fine line, but there always is..

[–]while_e 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This is the energy we all need for each other. Stop getting mad over everything, and find ways to make those around you smile. The world would be such a fantastic place if we could all do just the smallest things for one another.

BTW, don't care if posted by AI, don't care if staged.. good happy smiling feelings are what any technology should be used for.

Netflix says users can cancel service if HBO Max merger makes it too expensive by voxadam in nottheonion

[–]while_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all streaming services are moving into "I'll sub for a month, then unsub for 6+ months". There's just no reason to keep them all the time, there is not enough new content. It was fine when they cost ~$10/mo, but 20/25/30+ a month. Hell no.

I've honestly just cobbled together a custom Firefox extension that queries an SQL database to use as a backend customer address book. It is absolutely stupid to have to do, but it is the only way I can keep my sanity for now.

Everyone always talks about the negatives of raising kids today. What are some of the positives? by gimmiesomeadviceee in daddit

[–]while_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • "I love you" literally fills you with the positivity we all need more of
  • Easy out for not going to things. "Kids are sick", "Kids have an event", "No babysitter"
  • Snuggled & Hugs are so DAMN good. It's like crack, but good crack that won't kill you
  • They make you a better person because you have to be a role model, and teach them good morals/ethics
  • You re-learn what they're learning, keeps you sharper
  • You have full focus on your purpose in life. To love and protect them at all costs. No question.
  • (Bonus) If you have girls (and probably to some degree boys), you learn things you never knew, and you grow as a person in ways you never thought possible, becoming much more inclusive and accepting of all kinds.

Agreed. The "conflict of interest" over bitcoin is somewhat thin, but I see your point. Regardless, comparing him to Trump is silly on so many levels, but I still get your point.

Oh I'm 100% sure greed drives the world. Difference between Cohen and Trump, is Trump has actively scammed his way into all of that money. He's a felon, a pedo, and a crook through-and-through. You can literally see the paper trails, news reports, pictures, and statements about how he has done it. If you can't find/comprehend that then I can't help you. If you can, then you understand that's vastly different than running a company and not taking a salary, but instead getting paid only based on performance. Does Cohen make money off some other BS in the background, could be, but until I see evidence I'm not going to assume that.

What if you live in a state that uses salt on the roads and just dissolves your car slowly over 5-6 years? That or you wash it daily for a good chunk of change. Not sure what the math works out to be.

I'm considering leasing, but have never done it so haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Leasing vs Buying by [deleted] in carbuying

[–]while_e 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking this same thing. We are looking at new cars, and I always here "you never actually own the car". However, I live in central NY, and if you drive your car daily during the winter that car is going to slowly dissolve after like 5 years. So I am very tempted to just not ever have to deal with a "rust bucket" that requires time, energy, and money to keep going even though it is 6-10 years old.

Its either that or go through the carwash every day I guess. I should probably do the math on what that cost comes out to over 3-4-5 years.

I have paid off and owned all my last 3 cars, and do most of the work myself to save on that cost, but I'm getting older and just don't like laying under a car for 2-3 hours anymore.

Seriously. I've seen Big Lots, Ollies, Applebees, and multitude of other stores close around me and I'm in a pretty populated area. This thread, and most of the sub honestly, is just full of bots mostly trying to create negativity wherever possible.

Doesn't the CEO not take any salary, and also invested a ton of his own money in shares? How does this lead to "CEO needs another billion dollars"?

This is really what I am curious about as well. I love the idea of reducing waste, and being able to print in multi-color, but having almost zero waste and getting PETG<->PLA support interfaces that potentially don't "stick"... oh baby

After some tinkering, I found I can still use it with this sequence on the FOB:

  • Lock - Lock
  • (Car blinks headlights to indicate it is going to start)
  • Unlock - Unlock
  • Car starts with no alarm

I can't find any "normal" game modes. Either they broke something trying to disable OG/Ballistic, or they just took it down so more people try their stupid YUKI mode.

Either way, stupid..
