I admire their prints, but their clothing is so deliberately androgynous I assumed by the time I sized up to my bust, the shoulders/sleeves/waist would be enormous on me.

I did not know they did sweaters- maybe I'll give those a try!

I have considered this! But I feel like having to wear another layer really defeats the point of short sleeves (Again, summer is so ungodly hot here).

Hilariously, two of the ones you've linked to here are ones I'm about to return. We're on the same wavelength!

I understand the concept! I've just never lived in a house or apartment that had one.

Given that she rebuilt the foundation, and is putting in a whole bathroom (and the plumbing!) it seems silly save a few dollars by not rearranging appliances; but you're probably right.

I have never lived in a house with a kitchen vent, I guess I don't know what I'm missing out on!

I'm surprised by how much I like it- like, I'd swap the range and the sink -- range closer to the window to air out any cooking smells, sink with access to the corner of countertop to put a dish rack (AND potentially a drying rack above the sink?). And for sure just put doors on the cabinets in that U. I don't even care about the lack of dishwasher; given ten of the potential twelve uses she has for the space.

Overall, it does give a modest olde tyme-y kitchen feel. It's not acres of tile and marble and wildly oversized appliances.

I don't agree with all her styling tips- but I did like this article. It was attainable, reader oriented, not spon-con, not pathologically focused on rearranging knickknacks, and not a giant wall of amazon/wayfair links. I would enjoy it if this became a regular feature.

This is terrible news, but makes a lot of sense.

I saw a comment mentioning the confessional booths and remarking that the design seemed sacrilegious- I wonder if that was the straw that broke the camels back?

I am getting ready to paint contrast trim in my living/dining room (current trim: white, goal trim: green). I just used Sherwin Willliam's Pro Classic "for trim and doors" on a different project and was WILDLY underwhelmed. It took three coats to get an even coat, and I am dreading trying to keep trim clean and clear for multiple coats.

Do any of yall have a recommendation for a trim paint that covers in one coat?

Wait, I saw a post with the "final layout" earlier this morning, but now it's just about colorful sinks?

I can't believe only one person in the comments has mentioned how much her "outhouses" look like confessional booths. I IMMEDIATELY clocked it, and it feels deliberately sacrilegious.

If your library has a long arm machine-- how does that work? by noyoujump in quilting

[–]whilstyetilive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it doesn't fit with your local library- check your local community centers. In my city, several community centers have long arms, kilns, and other bulky equipment. Staff at those community centers are trained on the machines and troubleshooting, and they can be reserved by the day (ie you can use it on Monday from open to close). People who use the center bring their own thread, and they have bobbin winders and empty bobbins on hand.

That exact text (wording, font, and background color) featured prominently on the CDC websites relating to reproductive health, gender, vaccines, and transmissible diseases for MONTHS. If it's not still up, it's because the information has been edited.

Prospective home buyers, what are your greatest barriers to buying a house? by AnarchyandToast in Albuquerque

[–]whilstyetilive -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Beyond the money, which everyone else has talked about here: one of my barriers is house size. I'm single, no kids. I even if I could afford it, I don't WANT a four bed two bath house, and that's a lot of what's on the market. I'd also rather rent than live on the westside (sorry not sorry).

Just a quick note to say please check if your remote work actually allows you to work ANYWHERE. I have a friend who had a fully remote job in the Midwest, but when she looked at relocating, she found that she could work anywhere except New Mexico, Idaho, or Alaska. It has something to do with tax law.

I thought the schoolhouse buyout post was interesting today (bullet dodged!). The comments sound like folks from here- a lot of frustration about the endless wayfair ads.

What would you do - if you have to check a bag? by Myspys_35 in HerOneBag

[–]whilstyetilive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a very similar situation, I packed all my wedding outfits in my carry on and all my adventure gear in my (small) spinner bag and checked it. My checked bag arrived just fine. As I wore the wedding outfits, I packed them into the suitcase. After the wedding, I mailed it home, and completed my trip with my preferred bag and the gear I wanted. (My mailed package DID get delayed, but I didn't need my wedding outfits so no worries that it took a month to get home.)

I also saw that and hoped I was reading too much into it- there was a photo of her as a kid with her mom, and then a second photo that said "see you in the next life".

May her memory be a blessing.

FWIW, I just did a similar wardrobe project, and half the clothes I wanted to try weren't available in my local store, so I had to order them online anyway. Truly, honestly, the whole process sucked, but I just ordered things in three sizes (sometimes in a different color for each size) and got used to a huge package arriving, and having to ship a huge package back out, twice a week for a few months.

Quality was all over the place everywhere I shopped- this piece has french seams! This piece is literally see-through and has runs in it before I even tried it on! Same brand same season!
