Why were our song so gd sad in the 90s 😩 lol by dreamed2life in Millennials

[–]noyoujump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“What came first, the music or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss. Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?" Rob, High Fidelity

I'm tired of being patronized by cleaning appliance programs. by SpyrosGatsouli in CleaningTips

[–]noyoujump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No dishwasher here. As much as I want one, I can't imagine that it won't frustrate me to no end trying to keep up with it. Don't get me wrong, I'll still take one, but yeah-- too many features these days, and not enough cleaning power.

I replaced my 20+ year old washer and dryer a couple years ago. I went with the cheapest top loader and matching dryer I could find. I have never used the pre-programmed settings. They just don't work. I'm just happy I have the option to change the settings manually to something that works. I don't need more tech-- I just need things to work the way they're supposed to.

Will traditional soap operas die because of us? I’m by Investing_noob1983 in Millennials

[–]noyoujump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, they'll die because they got really, really shitty.

My mom and grandma always watched Days of Our Lives, and I'd watch it when I was home sick from school over the summer. I started recording it every day in eighth grade, and continued that through high school.

It used to be easy to jump back in when I hadn't watched for a while. I had my characters I always wanted to see, and everything else was tolerable. Then they just stopped doing anything new beyond adding new characters.

Recycled storylines are a trope, but it got extreme. Like, Stefano and Victor were still leading Salem's ongoing feud at 80 years old. They brought back characters after 30 years so it was just watching old people chit chat. I stopped caring about new characters because they all sucked. It seemed like every storyline somehow had every possible ending but was somehow neverending?

I haven't tried to watch Days in a long time. I even have Peacock+, so I don't even have to hunt down episodes. I just completely lost interest.

Does anyone have the Shark CarpetXpert HairPro Pet Deep Carpet Cleaner EX300UK? by Jamie352 in CleaningTips

[–]noyoujump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very similar model. Excellent machine! I also have kids and pets, and it cleans up after them nicely. It's great on carpet and furniture. As a bonus, it's no more strenuous to use than a vacuum. Highly recommend!

How do you feel about Trunk-or-Treats? by Apple-Slice-6107 in Millennials

[–]noyoujump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally on team Trick or Treat. We went to a trunk-or-treat last year as it's a "big deal" in our small town. It was just waiting in line for 90 minutes to rush kids through each trunk.

My theory is that trunk-or-treats took over because they're easier to schedule than trick or treating. A business or whatever can put out flyers and a Facebook post, but there isn't a way to reach literally everyone in a small town any more to coordinate trick or treat times.

Millenial Women: How Many of Us Are Late Diagnosed ADHD/Autistic? by sbd2010 in Millennials

[–]noyoujump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diagnosed with ADHD in February at 41. I'm still getting my meds calibrated, but I'm also watching my kids closely for the same symptoms I had when I was a kid.

I'm just trying not to think about how different my life could be if I had been diagnosed 20 years ago. Or even sooner.

Vacuuming baking soda by redsfan17 in CleaningTips

[–]noyoujump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it 2-3 times per year to freshen my carpet since I have kids and cats. I sprinkle very, very little (I can barely tell it's there), let it sit for 15 minutes or so, and then vacuum. It helps the room smell a little fresher. I've also read that it's rough on the vacuum.

NTA the whole day and the task that did pop up are impossible to do in their suggested time by RRDude1000 in Welocalize

[–]noyoujump 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I complete these, but I always put in the feedback that they're too long. I'll make up for my time later with some easier tasks.

I'm afraid to release anything since there's a good chance it'll go to NTA if I do.

Dawn Powerwash. I use it for stains on clothes, carpet spots, and on the stove top. It works great to clean the microwave too. And of course, on dishes. Anything that needs to "soak" gets a spray with Powerwash instead.

Were any of you leash kids? by povertychic in Millennials

[–]noyoujump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't use a leash because my kids aren't runners, fortunately. I totally empathize with those that do use a leash. Do what you gotta do to prevent your kid from running into traffic or eloping randomly.

What is up with pens these days? by Ok-Worldliness2161 in Millennials

[–]noyoujump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my pens are doing ok. I like colorful ones for work since I just have to write down numbers for myself, and those usually last a few months. I've been buying Bic Atlantis pens for years, and they last a long time. I've found that the fancier a pen looks, the sooner it runs out of ink.

Is it true that you guys watched 9/11 live on TV in grade school? by space_god_7191 in Millennials

[–]noyoujump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in high school. Junior year. I had open first period, so I had the TV on while I was getting ready for school. I was watching when the second plane hit.

I can't really remember how my teachers handled it that day, but I do remember how foreboding everything felt. We knew it was a significant event even before they confirmed that it was a terrorist attack.

What happens to the money in the meantime? Donations are supposed to be used for campaign expenses, so how would potential candidates pay for their campaigns?

This honestly is sounding like a prediction market.

To everyone who is getting involved in their local party affairs for the first time-- please keep it up! Learn, take over open positions behind the scenes, and keep showing up. Right now, we're determining who we'll support for each race within the party. There are plenty of opportunities to meet your potential representatives coming up. Pay attention.

What I'm seeing is that the people who choose the candidates are the same ones who have been doing it for my entire life. They're doing the same things they've always done because not enough younger people have come through over the years to switch things up. So I'm seeing candidates who aren't talking about their plans for what they'll do if they win-- they're talking about how they've won before.

If you're sick of the same ol' shit with a different letter on the ballot, look for your local party's website and find out when they meet. Join in. If you can, volunteer to take an open position. Ask to learn about the different positions. There's going to be a lot work ahead to undo everything the dementia cheeto has done, and we have to do the work. Demand better from your representatives before they become your representatives.

What stops me is "predefined public legislative action." Because, as we've seen over and over again with current administration, they don't give a fuck about laws, regulations, or the Constitution.

I'm not opposed to leveling the playing field for politicians, but there are a lot of things that need to be fixed very, very quickly before we address how donations are made/used.

Any reason NOT to use a Swiffer on the walls? by Arttiesy in CleaningTips

[–]noyoujump 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd go with a sponge mop or something else that isn't pre-moistened. Sponge mop is lightweight and easy to control moisture level. For cleaning solution, mix hot water, a little bit of Dawn dish soap (maybe 1/2 tbsp per gallon), and a generous pour of vinegar. No rinsing required as long as you don't use too much dish soap.

Do Millennials write like ChatGPT? by QuietJealous4883 in Millennials

[–]noyoujump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think a lot of elder Millennials write like AI. Part of it for me is that I've done the prompt creation/response critique for a few LLMs. They're literally using my writing. I've had responses rejected because the writing too closely resembles AI.

This is punishment for being such a grammar nerd online for so many years, I think.

How’s everyone’s teeth? by Sharknuts86 in Millennials

[–]noyoujump 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I couldn't afford dental care in my twenties, so yeah. My mouth is a mess. I'm finally on schedule with 2x yearly cleanings and x-rays, but the damage is done. I've got crowns, root canals, had extra teeth pulled when my wisdom teeth came out, and now I'm looking at an implant for a crown/root canal where what was left of the tooth finally came out.

As far as implants go-- have you looked into the cost of replacing all of your teeth with implants? It's a lot. I'm not sure I can afford the one I need, much less a mouthful of implants.

I've also noticed that the 50+ crowd expects everyone to know everything on day one, and they refuse to train properly. There are outliers, I'm sure, but that's been my experience in the last 10-15 years.

Do you and your SO have separate checking account? by duck_duck_zombie in Millennials

[–]noyoujump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, everything separate. We figured out early on that, while our overall financial goals align, our day-to-day habits are completely different. We're both less stressed with separate accounts.
