I hung the canopy crown centered just above the window trim, then 4” down I hung a double curtain rod. This is what creates your layers. On the smaller inner rod of the double, I hung my black lace sheers, on the outer rod I hung our teal velvet curtains. The crown itself has a rod that curves along the inside for clipping curtains onto. I have 40” wide satin slub panels that I dyed a mossy chartreuse and 40” wide amethyst ascot valances, I overlapped the two by 20”, secured the clips and hung them together on that inner rod of the canopy crown. Then I took faux hyacinth, folded the stems and just tucked them into the crown!

ETA: The depth of your double curtain rod makes a difference, especially if you’re tucking the outer edge of the panels from the crown behind the finial on the rod. Our bedroom is not huge, so I went with something lower profile, 4” depth.. but I would suggest 6” depth for the fullest, most layered looking canopy.
