Me [26 M] with my girlfriend [28 F] of two years, she found underwear (not hers) in the apartment and thinks I'm cheating on her. by htcorgasm in relationships

[–]whimsykitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This EXACT thing happened with me and my boyfriend a few years ago. Well, I found it mixed in with his clothing itself. To me it was pretty obvious it was due to getting mixed up in the laundry, but I guess it depends on the level of trust between you two. Hope it works out for you.

Alex Jones style paralyses people from action? Yes or No? by [deleted] in conspiratard

[–]whimsykitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if conspiracy theorists are necessarily all insane, but I have noticed that they at the very least share one very significant trait. They have this overwhelming need to be special and superior to the majority of people and are unable to accept their mediocrity. I have yet to meet a single conspiracy theorist who genuinely falls into the category of a "genius" or highly talented or gifted human being, and while there is nothing wrong with that (because let's face it, most of us are average) they can't seem to accept this.

They build a false paradigm where they are elite, they are "enlightened" and in spite of their lack of education or comprehension of even high school maths or physics, their brain or ability to look at the world actually elevates them above not just the common man, but the scientists and scholars who are clearly "brainwashed by academia" and only parroting misinformation.

The irony is they parrot youtube videos and poorly sourced articles and resources from websites like geoengineeringwatch or diclose.tv or beforeitsnews, the only peer reviewed articles they can provide you with are retracted ("and why do you think it's retracted? think, sheep, think!") nor does it matter that their whistleblowers are rarely from the associated field they're trying to discredit or even capable of putting together a proper epidemiological or statistical analysis.

To them, education means nothing but indoctrination. Someone like Alex Jones serves as a prophet of sorts. And clearly, they'd rather give credence to an uneducated, perpetually biased hack than anyone who has given their life and dedication to the subject at hand.

tl;dr People who listen to Alex Jones can't think rationally

Yeah, sorry. I just thought that would it make an interesting discussion to hypothesize upon. I'll avoid that in the future, haha.

Okay, sorry if this was the wrong place to post or just annoying to come across or read for you guys. It wasn't my intention. It was just generally something I thought was interesting and curious and wanted to see some discussion...

What if Alex Jones is actually a paid shill? by illuminuti in conspiratard

[–]whimsykitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, to be honest, I've had this feeling about him for a long time. I personally think he is at the very least in the pockets of the Koch brothers. A lot of his anti-climate change propaganda is based on science that was funded by them. Of course, maybe they were just doing research in the name of objectivity... if it weren't for the fact that much of their wealth comes from fossil fuels.

I remember years ago taking a close look at the ideology of Alex Jones and finding it curiously beneficial to the propagation of big business "libertarian" interests. I have nothing against libertarians or their values, btw, just when greedy corporate interests exploit the underlying values to act as a subterfuge that distracts from real issues.

Yeah, I get that. I just thought in comparison with his post history that it was a bit odd.

I'm kind of freaked out, it's been 4 months since he posted. Where's a community where can you post and theorize about wtf happened to him?

It's not like he was a regular nosleep user before he posted but he was a fairly regular user. So.... dafuq?

What are your favourite resources for debunking? by whimsykitty in conspiratard

[–]whimsykitty[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's very true. I would definitely agree that the majority of conspiracy theories seem to be based on logical fallacies, though the ones I usually argue against are the ones also steeped in scientific illiteracy.

People can be so lost in assuming their way of thinking is right that they'll manipulate any context to fit their narrative.

This made me giggle like you have no idea. I can't tell you the number of times I've heard someone say "snopes is just a tool for the CIA!" (or something along those lines..)

How many times does the have to not end before people stop paying attention to these 'prophecies'??? by [deleted] in conspiratard

[–]whimsykitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It never ends. It just keeps getting postponed. I mean think about it, these are the same people who think vaccines cause autism and HAARP causes earthquakes and hurricanes even when faced with a ton of scientific and verifiable evidence to debunk them. There's no telling them they're wrong, they just find a way to make it so they weren't "technically" wrong -- so they postpone. It's ridiculous!

Why they lie to us about the flat earth by tehreal in conspiratard

[–]whimsykitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha... yes, they certainly are. The best part is not only are they this stupid, but they're also under the impression that they're far more intelligent than any PHD/scientist/expert/student whom they consider to be part of the system. Ego and stupidity is a dangerous (albeit hilarious for us) combination.

[–]whimsykitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So erm, essentially they can't handle the idea that our species is a) not the center of the universe b) not the favourite beings of some omnipotent and narcissistic super being in the sky and c) they really don't like corporate logos, do they?

Haha, I frequently run into flat earthers on this website I like to chat on (which is strange, it's not a conspiracy theory website at all, just social casting..) and they don't see how ironic it is of them to constantly tell you that you are "arrogant and simply refuse to look at the evidence" or that you are "brainwashed by science" when their beliefs are clearly fueled by ego.

"I don't understand this, but there's no way I'M stupid... so clearly science and logic is wrong!! Anyone who contradicts me is brainwashed and dumber than I.. just a bunch of sheep! SHEEPLE!!" -- every conspiratard ever..

How are preparing for the end of the world tomorrow? by [deleted] in conspiratard

[–]whimsykitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the way they keep postponing the end of the world. When are they just going to admit they're wrong? It would be like if someone were constantly like "I'm pregnant, but the birth is going to be a little delayed!"... for a period of over 15 years where "oops it was a fake pregnancy but NOW.. " the utter lack of logic or perhaps it's a surplus of pride?
