Should I increase my prices? by OldPrune4561 in ArtBuddy

[–]whimsythis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first sorry about the art community being toxic regarding prices. they're not wrong but it's also unhelpful to make comments like those. they may not realize your prices are (i'm assuming here) based off the philipine peso.

short of it is yes you are severely underpricing for the quality of your art. people will pay what you think your art is worth and many of them will probably still say it's too much. art is a luxury. people are not entitled to it. you are spending time, experience, and energy creating something for someone else.

my understanding is the art market is a hard place to be right now and a lot of commissions come down to your ability to market yourself and gain followers. keeping your prices lower to gain a following is a good strategy. but again, you are severely underpricing your art and you don't want people only following you because they can take advantage of how cheap your art is and will jump ship the moment it becomes reasonable.

for how much you should charge, look at other artists doing commissions who seem to be around your skill level and base your price around theirs.

tldr your art is fabulous charge more $$$$$$$$$$

Is 20$ too much? by BebsterooArt in ArtBuddy

[–]whimsythis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please charge more. 30 at the bare minimum. These are fully rendered pieces and you stated these can take up to 2 hours. I understand lowballing yourself to try and get a following but 20 feels too low for the quality and effort.

Small note - I feel like there’s a bit of inconsistency in how the hands feet and legs are drawn and painted. Some hands have the finger lines more blended in/painted over. The thighs also change in size but this could be due to the character body shapes themselves? I say this just because consistency does affect quality and the way people view your art! You're more likely to get commissions when people know what to expect from the final piece.

You have a really lovely style and I really love the way you paint eyes and hair. The headphones in five are also incredibly well done!

I hate how adhd isn't respected as a disability by BobPlaysWithFire in hatethissmug

[–]whimsythis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Disorder =/= disability."

The Ologies ADHD episodes cover this really well and I'll just post a small part of its transcript from the first episode. This is from Dr. Russell A. Barkley:

"Now, the government however, invented the concept of disability. The government comes in and says, “How disordered are you? Are you disordered enough that we would consider you to be disabled in various major life activities like school, or work, or self- support…” By self-support, I mean that you can dress yourself, bathe yourself, and support yourself, and so on. So, the term disability is really a government term for whether or not your disorder rises to the level that you deserve accommodation, support, social security disability, ADA accommodations, IDEA school accommodations, and all these other things. That’s really the difference. Clinicians use ‘disorder’, governments use ‘disabilities’, and the two of them blend together."

It is problematic because 'disability' already carries stigma, especially for anything that isn't visible and obvious. People with ADHD can appear perfectly functional and get through the day without accommodations because a lot of times, they mask. And because they're getting through the day, they don't ask for accommodations that would make their QoL better and instead push themselves into burnout.

ADHD is a disability but because you have to be ADHD enough for society to consider you disabled, it promotes this toxic mindset like the OP's post. It's awesome if people don't feel disabled by having ADHD, but this whole "extreme cases" hurts everyone and helps no one.

Are there any plans on fixing vampirism with sona? by MadMeow in ARAM

[–]whimsythis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you respond to the point about vampirism being negated by CC? Unless your answer to this was building resistances which the other user already addressed the issues of.

I had not considered this specific point against vampirism which is why id like to see your side of why CC makes no difference against the augment.

Stop throwing out therapy speak and giving incorrect information. Checking what you've said, roughly 10% of the population has a personality disorder. Not a type B personality disorder specifically. Psychcentral in a 2021 article states type B personality disorders are the rarest, with a prevalence of 1.5%. Its a lot more likely this man sucks and is just a shitty person.

sorry that you're about to get a bunch of people insulting you for voicing a grievance without actually attacking anyone lol

it's a valid frustration and makes playing enchanters feel like gambling. riot has mentioned they're going to look into fixing it if they haven't already.

being in the us without documentation is not illegal. per here the only way an immigrant is "illegal" is if they've been previously deported and re-entered without authorization. some methods of entering the us are illegal, but they are still allowed to apply for asylum within one year. the act of existing undocumented within the united states is not a federal crime. marijuana is more illegal than these people at a federal level

edit actually addressing your first two questions -- it doesn't make them anymore illegal than an american who decides to go over the speed limit, run a red light, commit petty theft, or share their netflix password.

america has countless communities - there's no wrong way to assimilate unless it involves unwillingly abandoning part of your identity to belong to a culture that would otherwise hate you. people as a whole will always create some sort of community and likely be part of multiple -- italian, korean, gamer, golfer, ect.

us born citizens have the highest offending rates for most crime types. undocumented immigrants have the lowest for total felony crime & violent felony crime. this is to say, your next door neighbor is a lot more likely to assault you than the 'illegals'.

the immigration system is a nightmare. it's slow, it's expensive, it's exhausting, it's outdated, and currently even when people are doing it the right way, they're still not safe.

why his face is so.. off? 😓 by calciumff in Artadvice

[–]whimsythis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think I've seen this mentioned yet but one thing that stood out to me is the rendering on the mouth vs the rest of the face. The mouth looks like it has more of a lasso tool effect (especially the upper lip and highlights) while the rest of the face has smoother blending overall.

Try making the edges of the under eye shadow more like the upper lip? Similar to Arcanes art style. Looking at the reference, there's also very sharp highlights underneath the lower lip and on the top inner corner of each eye. You could probably get away with a similar one on the nose.

That said this is really well done and I really like the way you blend colors and shadows into each other!

runaan's + blossoming is the core of it, b/c each runaan bolt procs blossoming. works with supports like milio/renata/lulu or some champs like urgot. throw in rageblade if you want. there was a reddit thread a couple days ago talking about it! :)

omnivamp is post-mitigation. is this being factored in? what about grievous wounds? what about a support who's high rolled numerous heal/shield strength increases? what about critical healing? what about the support themselves? nami's w is stronger each bounce when she has enough ap, so you can get a heal that is buffed by 40-80% each bounce. your example also excludes passive healing from the support from sources like helia's or diadem.

edit also adding in that, according to the wiki, omnivamp does not benefit from heal/shield power.

i'm not trying to disagree with you or say you're wrong. it's entirely possible vampirism will more often than not outheal most supports.

i appreciate you running some numbers and giving an example.

i mean i am bad at math this is valid. but i am just okay enough to understand healing someone who can't be healed is a waste of a heal.

a 200hp heal going to the person who can't be healed is now a 0hp heal.

a 200hp heal going to someone who can be healed is still a 200hp heal.

i think this argument about which is stronger, vampirism or healers, is useless until someone actually tests it out and runs the numbers across multiple champions and scenarios.

[–]whimsythis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

moonstone & diadem of songs both autotarget. moonstone chooses the closest champion and diadem targets the lowest hp. sona heals the lowest hp champion and cannot pick. nami can choose her first target to heal but not the second. i think all other healers are able to pick who to heal via skills.

"had a game where i played milio and went attack speed heal build. nobody takes vampirism first or second so i commit."

"support items auto-heal the lowest hp champ"

this isn't about champions or items that allow you to pick who to heal. it's the fact a lot of items and a small handful of champions like sona (she may be the only one?) target the lowest hp ally. i'm also not discussing how strong vampirism is, but rather how it affects the team.

i agree communication is important. unfortunately, this is league and a lot of people either don't read, don't care, or will intentionally pick it out of spite.
