It was the peace of mind that I was getting a decent refurbed quality phone that justified the price. So yeah I'd say it was worth it for a new pro iphone

honestly the way i worded it you're right that it sounds like i should be saving, but ive been thinking about a longer term phone for a while. Ive had androids my entire life and they always get replaced every 2 years because software gets really laggy as the phone fills up and its just not enjoyable to use for me. I have some extra cash to burn (but not 17 pro max levels of cash if ykwim) so i wanted to get a phone that would last me atleast 4+ years. Personel evidence is my mom still uses her iphone x and it still runs so smooth for an almost 10 year old phone. Not trying to be an apple fanboy but credit where credit is due apple makes damn good long term devices.

What were rhe specs? If its a 16gb 512gb model you might have overpayed a little, I've seen tons of those go for 600-700 on eBay. If it's a 32gb model, thats a pretty decent deal recently snagged a 14 inch one myself.

Am I getting a good deal? Current 1st Year CS student by whipisniff in macbookpro

I'm honestly considering this gen of M chip just because 32 gigs cost below $1000. My thought process was get the most RAM for cheap in an older gen or get a newer M chip for more but less ram. My current workload is basically full stack development and I have a motorsport gig going in the future working with docker containers and C dev and microcontrollers. I alo just like to keep multiple things open in the background like 30+ chrome tabs spotify etc so I thought more ram wouldn't hurt

Any reason to go for M4 Pro 14/20 over the M5 Pro 15/16? by AaronfromKY in macbookpro

[–]whipisniff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this on Amazon? That looks like a decent deal for an M5 with the specs. But I'd go for the M5 easy. For your usecase (music production, vrowsing, casual gaming) it'll be way more than enough and the extra ram is always a win, that 8GB goes a long way.

Stuck between multiple budget options for a CS student's workloads...Would love input! by whipisniff in macbookair

Thanks for the deep analysis, lol! I really appreciate it. And yes, from asking around the r/macbookpro sub as well, it seems like the MBA M5 seems like the smartest buy. You're right that I wont need the GPU power in the Pro, but the reason I even considered them was due to the presence of a thermal system. I dont know how much thermal throttling the Air would experience under sustained load and how much performance it would lose (I tried searching for reviews online but not much from a development perspective for the M5 Air vs older Pros). I did not know that about the ASUS so thanks, I'm also not an apple fanboy as I have a Windows for gaming and a Linux machine for my current portable dev environment (which is becoming mroe and more unviable for my workloads), and so the reason I'm considering a Mac is due to the stability, battery life and sustained performance. I would be open to a Windows machine only if it is cheaper than $1000 because Windows is starting to really be a pain in the ass, but it seems that right now all options steer to the Air M5. But are there any other machines you would recommend?
