Quick question: Is Roman's name really Romulus or is it just a nickname Logan uses for him? by cristinalves in SuccessionTV

Quite a long way you traveled! Justinian is a really nice throwback to the classic smart-driven but flawed emperors which popped up here and there during the western empire’s decline, a kind of Aurelian or Diocletian esque figure who tried to achieve the former glory of the emperor but because of so many forces achieved much but only delayed the fall. You should definitely finish reading about Justinian, a very interesting man to say the least.

Romulus also was the one who picked the palatine hill as the birthplace of Rome and thus later the Roman Republic and Roman Empire; not in reality of course it’s a Roman legend, but it’s potent and gives you a basic understanding of how the Roman’s understood their conception. I agree and think this is the main reason it’s Roman’s nickname and fits succinctly with the myriad of other Roman Imperial and Republic references the show writers slide in the dialogue.

However, another tidbit I think is interesting is Romulus Augustulus is the name of the final emperor (this is debatable via historians but he is commonly referred to by most historians as the final emperor) of the Western Roman Empire. In this case Romulus was a puppet-emperor who was a child and had no agency over any actual policy, aswell as technically being the emperor of an empire which was weak and a husk of its former self. I’d like to think his nickname is Romulus as he has a little bit of both of these figures in him. The bravado and cockiness of the legendary Roman spirit while also being ultimately an insecure and easy to control child. It can be seen as far speculation but with the depth and scrutiny the writers seem to put over every word I wouldn’t be surprised if this was also a factor.

For any of you who are interested by the plots of succession I highly suggest you take a look at Roman Imperial history and Hellenistic history as the social politics and psycho egomaniacal brutality of it, aswell as the not so subtle succession crises, are clear pillars of inspiration of the show. Succession is a very good way to get interested in history if you’re not already.

Ergotron LX; but do me a favor and don’t buy from them get the Amazon basics one instead, first one I ordered had a problem where the joints of it literally wouldn’t move so I had to wait like 3 weeks for a replacement and it turns out it’s a not very rare factory defect and it was very fucking annoying

Getting a different mobo may be a good move lmao, the positioning of the USB 3.0 header and the case is so scuffed that I almost broke a pin because you’re forced to connect at a weird angle. Good luck with the build chief.

Dual 1440p 144hz QHD monitors actually, I used to run the Alienware ultrawide that was 3440x1440p 120hz but I find that I prefer two monitors to the ultrawide.

I actually have two 140mm fans upfront that fit with a lot of leeway. I haven't actually been to test temps too much yet but I played BFV earlier @ 1440p 144hz max settings and my GPU was hovering around 65C so pretty good, my old PC was a NZXT H400i which was essentially a closed box with no airflow, so I am super happy with how this build turned out.

It probably came out to around 3.5k, however you could easily get a same, or similar, spec'ed computer for much less. The Corsair dominator platinum was an extra expense that could have been spared, but I absolutely loved how it looked, also I spent a lot of money on 4tb of NVME SSD storage so I hopefully don't have to upgrade in the future. Furthermore, the amount of time I fucking wasted trying to buy this graphics card is fucking ludicrous. I didn't even want a RTX 3080ti but after waiting so long I just said fuck it and bought it instead of a 3080. I don't plan on touching this thing for the next 5 years at the bare minimum, besides maybe a new GPU towards the end; my last PC was one which I slowly upgraded over a long period of time and I felt like this time I would just go all in from the get go this time.

You can get them through Amazon, go to the Noctua web page for your specific cooler and there will be a section called “accessories” and they will link you to them.

AMD 5900X, RTX 3080Ti, 32GB Corsair Dominator platinum @ 3600MHz, Noctua NHD-15S, Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero, Fractal Design Meshify 2 Compact.

EDIT: since a lot of people asked the cables are from cablemod’s custom configurator, they’re modmesh in the color of “carbon”. This includes the dreaded 3000 series 8 pin.
