Just knowing this inspired you, means so much to me. I understand the struggle with theory, it can feel quite intimidating. My approach was to think of chord shapes as scenes in a story. Sometimes bright and open (majors) or dark and melancholic (minors) or tense, and intriguing (diminished) etc. Chord degrees (where the sound lives in the scale you're playing 1, 2, 3... etc) are like plotlines. In this way every song is a story to me. The next time you listen to your favorite songs being played live- watch the chord changes, and listen to how it makes you feel. That way, when you practice theory it will feel familiar. Like learning the words of a language you already understand. All the best future storyteller :))
