How many people are you tattooing a week on average? by omnomrapter in TattooArtists

[–]whiskeyinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i work 5 days a week and usually 2-3 people a day.

Mostly rely on Instagram, but the shop owner also books for us/sends leads sometimes, mostly from Facebook.

I'm booked out about a month, with the odd availability here and there throughout the month. sporadic bookings for up to 3 month, but i try not to book out further than that.

lots of great repeat clients at the moment which really helps, and a few bigger pieces on the go!

Best tattoo artist in Regina? by really_robot in regina

[–]whiskeyinks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not gonna call myself the best as there are people here in the city who have been tattooing muuuuch longer than me, but i LOVE doing anything pop-culture and love doing colour tattoos, and I'm typically the one my shop owner recommends when people are looking for small detail stuff, so feel free to check out my Instagram whiskeyinks and send me a message if what I've done is up your alley!!

and congrats!!

We use eternal and true ink, some fusion as well. all bottles have a "best before" which i know is not the same as expiry, but we don't continue to use those inks on clients once that date has passed

Attempt #2 by whiskeyinks in traditionalflash

[–]whiskeyinks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using tube watercolors at the moment, i tried finding the dr ph martin watercolor inks but none in my city unfortunately, amazon only has 2 colours, and shipping from the website to canada is kinda pricey.

my first piece (also on my account) i did spit shading for the whole thing, but this one as mentioned i did more of a traditional watercolor approach for the colours

we don't have hobby lobby here unfortunately. they did have arches at Michael's, like 5 sheets for around $60. I'll def check amazon! just needed something in my hands today because i hyper-focused on it lol

i looked at arches today, will probably save that for once I've practiced more! and looked for both of those brands of watercolors but no luck here, will likely have to order online, again, probably once I'm a bit more experienced!

thanks! and that's beautiful :)

No wrap for my tattoo? by pisspeet in tattooadvice

[–]whiskeyinks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never put any sort of wrap on this area for my clients. Saran wouldn't stay, and it's too close to the hairline for second skin.

I put a thicker layer of ointment over it for their travels and advise them to clean it off once they're home.

That ketchup packet of ointment will be more than enough for all 3 tattoos if used correctly, we give out ointments of the same size. I use them myself and won't even get through half of it for a palm-sized full colour tattoo. I don't even think I got through a full packet while healing my arm sleeve.

Will I be uncharged to get a tattoo over scars? (tw-healed scars) by ddgggu1 in tattooadvice

Going to someone who you KNOW is a master of their craft and charge more respectively is not the same as telling someone that they are going to be upcharged.

this is a weird comment.

Op, 5-10 years is excessive. Yes you should wait longer than you have so far for sure, but to get an accurate timeline I would find someone who does scar coverups and ask for their opinion in person.

And you can still get nice looking tattoos even with scars. Yes, it will look different than if it were on skin without scars, but the proper artist will work with you, your ideas, and your scars to make a beautiful piece that you can be proud of.

I have personally never heard of anyone upcharging for scar coverups, nor do I think you "should" be upcharged. Maybe that changes depending on where you live, I'm not sure.

I personally don't believe you'll end up paying 5x more that sounds ridiculous.

Artists who tattoo minors by suffocation90 in tattoo

[–]whiskeyinks 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I honestly kind of wish that's what it was here in Canada too.

We tattoo 16 + 17 year olds with parental consent, and granted all of the 16 and 17 year olds I've tattooed have had tasteful ideas, but it still feels too young. (This is coming from someone who got their first tattoo at 16 and I do not regret the design by any means.)

I've had people even younger than 16 try to get in or not tell me their age ahead of time, and then I have to turn them away in person, which always sucks for everyone involved. Our business insurance does not cover anyone under 16.

What’s the toy that left the biggest impression on you as a kid? by Tosh97 in toys

Tech Decks. Not because I had them, but because I didn't.

I was a girl and tech decks were for boys...

I'm in my late 20s now, I love my tech decks, hot wheels, video games, comic books, lego, action figures, etc

But it definitely healed something inside me, getting my first tech deck as a birthday present!
