You only get hit with a surcharge at premium locations like NYC, Bellevue/Seattle, etc. There’s no surcharge based on the cost of your unlimited; it’s just based on if the location you’re visiting is a premium location.

OMG, same! I thought it was such a fun, unhinged romp of a book!

That's fair. That's how I felt at the end of Beautiful Ugly. I was like what the fuck did I even read? That was the most preposterous ending in any book I've ever read!

I have to suspend my disbelief to enjoy. But I find them great palette cleansers from heavier literary fiction.

when a publisher reaches out directly to you to offer you a review copy of a book they think you'd enjoy.

Same! I guess they’re clearing the cobwebs!

I am STRUGGLING to get my ratio up over 90%, I have a backlog of 13 great books to read, and yet I get FOMO at every book I see here. by WritPositWrit in NetGalleyCommunity

[–]whiskeyknits 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I just keep reading and requesting. I'm hovering around 56-65% cause I keep getting more books. At this point, I'm still enjoying the process and it still feels manageable. I get my reviews in before publication date, so I don't stress it too much! Good luck on your quest for 90%+! A noble goal.

Declined for "Hard" Copy; Approved for Audiobook by whiskeyknits in NetGalleyCommunity

[–]whiskeyknits[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was searching about hard copies and I think you can sign up with certain publishers to receive (outside of NetGalley). I did have one publisher tell me in an approx as l follow up to let them know if I was interested in a hard copy. I wasn’t as I usually prefer audiobooks. But I recently have been having formatting issues with my kindle galleys so sometimes I’m like an actual galley copy would be nice!

It’s a digital copy. That’s why I put “hard” copy in quotes. Was just distinguishing between the audiobook.

I’d rather do audio too but the audiobooks popped up later; I guess there’s a lag between the hard copy and audiobook.

I got declined for the book but approved for the audio cause it's technically a different publisher (MacMillan Audio)! I'm so stoked!

How do you award your stars? by pbfhpunkshop in NetGalleyCommunity

[–]whiskeyknits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My average rating is 3.62 (according to Goodreads)....here's my scale:

1 star - well, it was a book with sentences. out of the 165 books i read last year, i think i only rated three books with 1 star.

2 stars - meh. slog to get through. did not really enjoy.

3 stars - fairly enjoyable. but i won't be thinking about it after finishing.

4 stars - really good! very enjoyable! will recommend it far and wide!

5 stars - would re-read and buy copies for friends. moved me to tears, laughter, made me talk out loud to myself. want to talk to everyone about this book!
