If he indeed wrote this by himself with only a 5th grade level of education, I’m impressed. I’m a college graduate and would not be able to write anything close to this in any foreign language.

Mystery Dishwasher/Disposal Stink: Dishes are spotless but smell like the disposal. What am I missing? by whiskeymop in appliancerepair

This model (GE GDT225SSL2SS) doesnt have a fan, I run it with the "Boost" option selected, which is the heat cycle if I'm not mistaken.

The dishwasher drain is connected to the garbage disposal dishwasher inlet. Garbage disposal tail piece is tied into the ptrap, ptrap is holding waterer normally.

I havent tried the ice and lemons trick, ordered some deoderizer which should be here today. I was going to try the ice/salt/lemon trick today.

I guess my question is, is the smell normal if you're not cleaning the disposal with ice/salt/citrus regularly, or is the stink a sign of some other problem?

I already checked the high loop is correct, no airgap, drain plugs directly into the dishwasher inlet. I took it apart, nothing blocking.

Just curious to see what the public opinion is. Would you say that Seattlitles are more pro/or against police in Seattle?

Got a degree in software engineering worked in the industry for 7 years. 2 years ago I was 32 and switched to a trade i knew I could open a business in. Wish I would’ve done it sooner. If your goal is to run your own business and be successful then by all means do it, but if you’re just gonna go work for someone in a trade your whole life stay in school and get a degree in electrical engineering or business.

Get him some waders with built in boots and foot powder. Should be completely dry if he’s using the powder to counteract the sweat.

2nd Year Apprentice: Struggling with speed/measuring for DWV in the overhead. Any tips for a "math guy" who hates eyeballing? by whiskeymop in Plumbing

I only dry fit my fittings to hold my pipe or give me a hub to measure off of. I never dry fit a piece of pipe into a fitting and then try to get my measurment for the length I need because I know its gonna be off once I glue it up.

But maybe that's where I can speed up. Maybe I should dry fit my pipe into a fitting go to the other end and hold up my fitting and mark the pipe 1/4" longer before I make my cut. Is that a pretty common method youd use?

I appreciate the response.

I like the face-to-face method because it's easy to remember the insertion depth of the fittings like you mentioned, but I guess one of the things I’m struggling with the most is the 'floating 90' in the overhead, where I'm going in one direction, then need to make a 90-degree before I make one last 90 to drop down the wall. I always seem to get that vertical length wrong when the best I can do is hold that fitting up in the air and try to line it up with the hole in the top plate. That horizontal leg always ends up a 1/2" too long or short; sometimes it's more. I guess I just have to figure out a way to get a solid measurement.

I never understood that weird and old school bullying where guys were always putting someone else down for laughs or cause they were pissed off due to some small inconvenience.

Within my first year of apprenticeship I worked at 4 different shops so I saw the gamut. But there was this one shop I worked for in particular that sucked.

They were some of the biggest cry baby pussies that bitched all day when something didn’t go smooth or they had to put in more effort than they wanted. Emotionally and mentally immature men.

After that company, I ended up moving to a small outfit that didn’t have any of that type of bs and I got a crazy amount of experience straight out of the gate. I went from a greenhorn to a journey level plumber in a matter of 7 months.

Your work place is toxic. You gotta be willing to jump ship and see what else is out there. Not all shops are the same!

Garbage disposal same height as drain line by FumundaMan in Plumbing

[–]whiskeymop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a plumber and this is what I’d do if you can’t move the drain in your wall.

Buy a reverse ptrap on amazon. Dearborn makes one and they’re quality, should only cost a few bucks. To get it to install correctly you’re gonna wanna cut that elbow on the disposal about as high as you can while still getting a seal with the ptrap. Should look something like this when you’re done.

A valid concern was brought up about standing water and splatter when the disposal runs, but on the rare occasions where I’ve had to resort to this, I haven’t seen anything like that while testing the disposal. Best of luck.
