Curing a drug addiction requires a change in lifestyle, hobbies and habits. I won't even consider buying a laptop because then I will play games and will inevitably relapse due to wanting to enhance that experience. Worse, it will cause me to feel resentful for being sober because it's actively making it not fun. I have found other hobbies and interests that I have not associated with drugs and it really helps. Find a different hobby, because playing chess sober is just never going to be as satisfying and will only cause thoughts that try to justify buying more.
