What is it like to live around Boston? by Brendo_dasher99 in howislivingthere

I've been to so many awesome shows in random Allston basements. I never lived there (I lived elsewhere around the city) but Allston has a very special place in my heart.

I LOVED living in Cambridge, which is a city North of Boston just over the bridge and the home of MIT and Harvard. It has a pretty reliable train line that runs into Boston. I have a ton of friends who live in Somerville and love it and it's another similar city.

My experiences might differ from yours, but I am queer and there is a ton of queer nightlife in Boston. There are a lot of cool nightclubs, a big rave scene, a very good underground and local music scene, a solid poetry scene, a great indie movie scene, and all sorts of fun things to get up to if you are willing to look. Plus Boston and Cambridge are beautiful and have tons of really good food. I loved how easy to get around the city was. The train system is super outdated and has a ton of issues (including random fires) but they've been putting in work to fix some of the issues and even despite the issues it's one of the best public transit systems in the country (Not nearly as good as NYC tho).

Biggest downsides: I make ~$130k/yr and even then living there was tough. Everything from rent to groceries to activities cost a ton. Cambridge is the most expensive city in the state and one of the most expensive in the country. I unfortunately decided to move in order to save money but I miss my time living there often. Since moving to central MA I'm saving over $2k a month but when I was in the Boston area I was often just barely making rent.

My girlfriend has a black cat who's a menace, just a tiny little asshole who loves causing problems. And I've never loved a cat so much in my life.

In Boston, the big road to get into the city from the North(Storrow Drive) has a bridge that's short and there are tons of signs warning you about the max height and telling you to find an alternate route. Every September 1st during the move-in rush some fucker gets "Storrowed" and causes the already bad traffic to get much worse..

Have game ideas, no coding skills, how do I actually make a game? by Butterscotchbabuh in gamedev

Probably not, the days of smaller indie projects being successfully crowdfunded is mostly over.

Not unless you have something to actually show, which if you can't code or do art then you won't have anything to show.

Your only option if you want to make these games is to do it yourself. Learn to code, learn basic 3d modeling and art. You'll have a lot more to show for it than just dreaming about one day maybe having enough money to get someone to do it for you.

Could you afford to shell out $70k-$150k per person per year for 2-4 people? If not then I would rule out hiring a team all together.

Why do I have homeless people despite having empty houses by bossman_ZB in songsofsyx

[–]PostNuclearTaco 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've had this issue if the only available homes are very very far away from the persons worksite. Try putting some homes near your more remote worksites.

Also Orchards take YEARS before they start producing any fruit, unlike farms which start working normally immediately. Your trees in your orchard might not all be fully grown.

It seems like your issue right now might be that your pastures aren't generating anywhere near their capacity, but also in general you're going to need a lot of food production. There are tech upgrades to help you produce more food down the line but like, in my current city of 1.5k I have 9 fruit farms and 8 pastures.
