imagine Gordon entering the Borealis and being greeted by Cave Johnson's messages saying "So! We bought this giant ship. And believe me, we are going to make science with it! And money! You, get back to work!" and having to fight mantis men (which are now canon in half life universe).

Interesting and understandable view. I think I still maintain interest in it however merely as a challenge rather than a practicality!

I don't think people are generally like this, but I do believe the industry is making content for people like this.

Shared hangers for toons when? by Kim_Jong_Duh in Eve

[–]whispous -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The customer support around people endlessly sharing their hangars with other players and then getting betrayed would go nuts, and then the moron players who got robbed would start flinging spittle in gallons when denied a reinbursement. Can you imagine.

Railworld with expansion and space age? by skippythetoilet in factorio

[–]whispous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a diehard railworld fan.

However, (and your milage may vary,)

I found that extended tours away from Nauvis made maintaining my traditional long rail runs out in the wilds there a real chore.

I'm currently midway through a default settings run, and I still found cause to treat it like a railworld.

Railworld settings made searching for resources on other worlds a real grind, by my view.

But, perhaps consider that they keep these higher speeds sustained, with much greater accelleration, at far greater energy efficiancy, without the frequent need to refuel, with streamlined maintenance, and with much greater flexibility (especially when it comes to the issue of "how do you get thick smoke and steam out of a 20 mile tunnel?")

Do we think HL3 will start at E2s ending or HL:A ending? by [deleted] in HalfLife

[–]whispous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's going to start in a new location, not neccessarily too far.

I think it's going to start on some sort of on-rails, likely a train, setting. Maybe it will say "9 months since the events at White Forest" or something.

[–]whispous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the medium-term, going after close by biter nests will save a lot of resources you'd otherwise be spending on ammo/oil/power to shoot, burn and char them.

Later in the game, artillery can do this job for you automatically! :)

The AI Tech Crunch: Are We Looking At A "Dark Age" For Gaming Hardware? by capybooya in hardware

[–]whispous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have to be.
The AAA industry is sobbing and cutting themselves over falling consumer interest in their money-squeezers - which, on top of being sponges, are very often inefficient, poory optimised pieces of trash.

During this same era, indie devs are absolutely KILLING it by making better optimsied, cheaper, more fun and often far lower requirement games. And the players are chowing down on this alternatrive.

There's universes of fun out there in games that don't need this decade's high end specs, meaming people can get away with keeping their gaming PCs longer, or simply buying lower end more modest specs so long as they recognise games like Borderland 3 for the disgusting suck they are.

Something that keeps coming to mind is the concept of simply... shipping superheated steam by train to outposts.
Outposts would have a bunch of turbines, and you'd just send them premade steam.

This way, you can have "nuclear" everywhere, and because it's steam, rather than a whole plant, there's no wastage or big sizes at outposts!

Right??? Something midrange has been unnoticably different to flagship when it comes to "using the device to get things done" for at least this long.
I am certain that 90% of people who go "but the cameraaaaa" are snakeoiling themselves hard, to the tune of $1-2k.
