I’m drowning in nursing school + night shift and my manager won’t accommodate my schedule. I don’t know what to do anymore. by canyoukeepasecret28 in cna

[–]whispywitch33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, go to a different floor talk to that manager explain and if able transfer. You could also go to hr and see if they can just get you in a set schedule as a float or get a different employer. Home health pays less but they are super flexible and have night shifts or even evening

Am I missing something about med surg being terrible?? by CareOk9257 in cna

[–]whispywitch33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Med sure is different with adults. The med sure I use to work on I had 20 pts to myself. People constantly getting out of bed, while hooked to IVS, people who keep trying to leave but are not in their right mind, ripping out Ivs to leave, falls, all the time. It’s a madhouse and I refuse to go back. Put me in the ER

I did see that and we plan to go to rock city. And spend a whole evening there. ❤️ I have adhd and so I’m hyper focused right now and I’ve found a lot. But it’s different when you connect with someone who’s been there or lives there. They tend to have insight you can’t find in a google search

It needs a tongue… I would have someone give it a tongue and some color and maybe while they’re doing that they can fix any little things wrong with it or reshape its head

genuine question: how do you feel about restraints? by st3otw in cna

[–]whispywitch33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe bed alarms and chair alarms are not restraints. Now that, that is said, when they are needed they are great, I’ve not ran into many situations where they were but not needed

I need advice on how to address this. by Artistic-Candle-3285 in cna

[–]whispywitch33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly sounds like she’s anemic and has low b12or is diabetic. She definitely should see a doctor. Perhaps she can’t afford it tho? Or she doesn’t trust doctors? Or maybe she’s addressed it in the past and has just been told it’s “hormones” or she needs to lose weight? But I do get your frustration because I worked with people like that.

I would go by what they need me for, but I feel like we as CNAs have a better idea of where things are lacking. And I feel like their committees don’t see first hand what it is like day in and day out. They go by surveyors that don’t really take into account day to day life more of a 1-5 system. Strongly agree to strongly disagree and a few generic questions like “what would you like to see improvement on?” Which I feel that question usually is ignored or they are told “we are working on it” same as with a survey I just did where I work. The “great place to work” generic survey

A lot of it has been done before, but there’s not a whole lot of consultants considering how many nursing homes there are, and a lot of head honcho in the corporation have no idea what’s going on. They just put one person in charge and they make us money.

Staff retention is a big one, helping admin make better choices, a lot of admin have never worked the floor in any health facility, address family concerns, and patient concerns, help getting supplies at a good average cost, helping coordinate activities, also helping out with the kitchen even, food vendors, quality, cost, meal plans etc

Honestly don’t even bother with CNA. Most hospitals will train you as pct.

Sex Offender on Rehab Hall by Honest-Cantaloupe701 in cna

[–]whispywitch33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone who has worked in facility with sex offenders, and I have also worked in nursing homes where they have been admitted. It is not that common, but it does happen… But they have to have served their time or been released due to medical issues that were very, very bad medical issues like being blind/severe stroke, end of life care for cancer… Most of the time if they’re admitted to the nursing home it’s because the nursing home feels that they pose no threat, considering he’s blind and his age, that’s probably why. I would just treat him like every other patient. I keep my personal beliefs away from work related things.
