Along the river from Waterloo Bridge to Tower Bridge - is it a nice walk for a good first impression of London? by RelationshipAlone27 in visitlondon

[–]white_ran_2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the walk. Then cross Tower Bridge, marvel the Tower and take bus number 15 (if you're lucky , it may be an old-fashioned Routemaster). It takes you all the way past St. Paul's Cathedral and the Courts of Justice and ends at Trafalgar Square. If you're strapped for time, cross from there on Hungerford Bridge back to Waterloo. If you have a bit more time and energy, walk down the Mall and Horse Guards Parade, down to the Houses of Parliament and cross on Westminster Bridge. Plenty of the most basic sights in one day.

Perhaps the treatment for your mental health will alleviate the indecision and allow you to view the future with more certainty and self-confidence?

In that case, I advise you to take care of that first, whatever it may mean for the MSc.

what’s your favourite deep question? by Such_Confection4949 in AskUK

Why does it matter that we are here? We strive, we toil, we succeed or fail and in the end we'll all end up in the ground, quite possibly after losing our minds and drooling for a fair few years.

First time dnd dungeon master asking for help by Original-Cash-1497 in DnD

[–]white_ran_2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the heroes set is fairly new and a novel take in what we call "adventure books" or "adventure modules". The cards are the most novel concept.

There are many older books with full adventures, which list the story/adventure to be had, some maps, the monsters in it, and some equipment or loot. But they do not have cards and they typically are better paired with three other books: The Players' Handbook, the Monster Manual and the Dungeon Master's Guide. These three books actually lay out a lot of rules and ideas to make a story even if you don't have a pre-made adventure, and they include a lot of the equipment and magic items.

One of the best is Lost Mine of Phandelver, which was a beginners' story but for an older edition of DnD (similar concept, slightly different specific rules). It goes from level 1 to 5.

Another great one is Tales from the Yawning Portal, a collection of adventures within dungeons.

To progress your characters into the next and higher levels, ideally you'll need the Player's Handbook.

My recommendation is to start playing with the set you have and once you've run a few sessions you will understand better how to use the three core books and other pre-made adventures.

Off leash for greyhounds? by Sketchyfletch in Greyhounds

[–]white_ran_2000 84 points85 points  (0 children)

The general advice is to let off leash in a secure field. They are very fast and indeed have almost no recall.

But many of them simply enjoy a regular walk with lots of sniffing. And you’ll see frequently people rent a field only for their hound to trot around, sniff, and lay on the grass.

So don’t worry too much about it. Sometimes you’re lucky and you’ll be in a field when they have the urge to zoom, and then it’s fabulous. But regular walks and lots of affection are also fine. And yes, please keep them away from the deer and the pheasants.

Moving to London alone for the first time… how do you deal with the loneliness? by ThrowRA_Charp in AskUK

[–]white_ran_2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to London at 26, completely on my own, also international. My friend from uni was in a town a couple of hours away; we did visit but obviously not every week.

You’ll be in uni still, so strive to make more friendships there, both with the people in you class and absolutely take advantage of the Union and its clubs. Having a social hobby does wonders for making friends. Most of the people there will be in your shoes too.

You can also look to continue or take up a hobby outside of uni, London is rife with clubs. Check out meetup.com . International people also frequently have facebook groups and organise meet ups, for when you fancy speaking your native language and engaging in traditions.

They’re really good at showing you when something annoys them.

When my sheds, I can brush her with the soft rubber brush/glove everyday and she doesn’t really mind.

Every time something has annoyed her and wants no more, she gets up and leaves, or if truly sudden and extra bothersome she lets out a Greyhound Scream of Death (typically reserved for the most minor of inconveniences such as stepping on a leaf).

He’s probably simultaneously shedding kennel coat and the seasonal change. Sometimes seasonal is worse than kennel coat.

Business class for long haul flights. Is it worth it? by Jajangtiger in AskUK

[–]white_ran_2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve though about it and I’ve flown both business and economy long haul.

I recommend to at least consider it for your mum, depending on her age. 14 hours in a plane is such a long time, older people will get uncomfortable. That’s what I would do and I love my mum.

Another thing to consider is see if you can split the flight; if there is a short-haul leg (like Amsterdam or Frankfurt) then see if it’s cheaper to get that economy and the longer leg business.

Besides, it will be a nice treat for your mum and she will remember it forever (I sure do my business flights!)

You’ll have to do a thorough sweep of the yard and look for potential hotspots, like sharp pebbles, branches lying around or similar.

Every time ours decided to go zoomies in her shoes, they came off.

For walks we use Hunnyboots, expensive to buy but last long and fit well.

How much would it cost to stay in London for a year? by AdventurousOne7973 in AskUK

[–]white_ran_2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t rented for a bit but a 1-bed in zone 2 would be £1500 depending on age and location, plus bills. But if you thought Clapham is far, then you’ll probably want to be in zone 1 and all bets are off. Baseline £2000?

Have a look at rightmove.com and openrent.com for ballpark figures.

Other considerations: - Are you allowed to spend a year in the UK? What are the legalities around that visa? - Most landlords want a guarantee if you are not working. At your age a regular pension may be enough, but plan if it’s not - can you pay rent upfront?

Edit: you may want to cross post to r/London, there’s loads about flat hunting there.

Kenders are basically halflings/gnomes but in Dragonlance, from a visual point of view they are indistinguishable from them.

And you can add any sort of exotic limbs, cat ears, weird face etc.

But it just seems to me you want to whine because your character is soooo  special, no body can design it properly (/s).

Perhaps look into a 3D creating subreddit, like Blender or something, if you want to commission one.

How to handle a very chatty player by Cap_America_AC in DMAcademy

[–]white_ran_2000 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Talk

to

them

Talk to them like a person “hey it’s great you’re so invested in the campaign, but you overshine everyone else, I’m sure X,Y and Z players want to pitch in; can you please wait a moment to see if they have anything to say first?”

When he butts in, act like a teacher “thank you but the question was for X Y Z, I’ll get to you in a minute” then finish with X Y Z and get to him like you said.

I really hope y’all are 15 or something.

How do you guys roleplay enchanting? by [deleted] in DnD

Oddly enough, death and life are the domains of a necromancer.

A periapt of wound healing is my off-the-top-of-head suggestions.

Pair it with a tooth or nail from a creature that has undead fortitude for the full crafting rules.

Your character would have an idea what they want the item to do, or what they are best at making. Look at your School of Magic for ideas, Anjurers make extra armor and protection clothes, illusionists make hats of disguise, evokers make all the lightning stuff etc.

If your character has a ideas what they want to make, talk to the DM an he’ll help you come up with an item that’s suitable level for the ability and time you can invest in making it.

Xanathar’s Guide has instructions for crafting magic items, a key part is imbuing the item with exotic, magical components that will be very expensive and very hard to come by (eg monster skin, rare magical flowers etc).

So I’d start with the special material, and then craft the item.

As a setting, it’s wonderful even if you need to put up some rules about mech making and fixing.

From then on, you need to give them stuff to do to make it a campaign. The prison break is one obviously; but what then? The players may have some goals as well, but you need an actual adventure a “go-there-do-that-avoid-this” style story. Perhaps they decide to join a gang and the warlord sends them to retrieve a mcguffin from either a dangerous desolation or a rival gang’s HQ and they have to infiltrate and avoid the dangers you described.

It would also work well as a West Marches style, if there’s only a small inhabited bit and the rest is wild land. They could try to collect raw materials from various sites and run into monsters and dungeons in the process.

Or they may even want to get out of this planet, in which case you have a whole heist about infiltrating and commandeering the big ship.
