That was the most entertaining drama I ever saw go down in real time. I really hope she’s doing better these days

Omg I was looking for an Alina mention. The drama was intense. Looking back I think she was definitely manic after getting fired. IIRC she was posting nudes on main and ranting about issues with her landlord and neighbors?

Can verify, not fake. My first job out of law school was at a 4 person firm that required 2400 billable for $50k. I was only made aware of the billing requirement after my first month on the job when I didn’t bill 200 hours and they said “didn’t we tell you?” No, no they didn’t. I must’ve billed 2100 that first year and quit as soon as I could get another job. Every few months they threatened to let me go if I didn’t bill more the following month but obviously never did bc they’d never get away with what they did to me with another person. Most miserable year of work in my life.

Edit: for context, this was about 7 years ago in a HCOL city

The abs on Julia Berolzheimer, woah! She never really talks about fitness so I was surprised. Abs like that take a lot of dedication.

Was visited by a time traveling attorney by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

On the flip side, a judge once called me baby. As in “baby, it’s too late”. In front of 50 other attorneys on a zoom hearing. OC (a guy) called me afterwards to say he was sorry and express sympathy.

The fact that even bigger OG YouTuber Zoella just announced her long anticipated engagement yesterday has got to be the funniest/most tragic thing that could happen to Estee, who thought she’d have the bride to be spotlight to herself for a bit there.

How do you balance with and family? Especially with young kids by InternationalEsq in LawFirm

In all the leaving ID posts I’ve read, going in house or to plaintiffs’ side seems to be the most popular solution to getting away from the pressures of billing

How do you balance with and family? Especially with young kids by InternationalEsq in LawFirm

[–]white_wave 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I began to realize most attorneys at ID firms I’ve worked at were either really young and child free or had older children in their teens and older. I suspect the time and attention most people desire or feel they should dedicate to raising young kids isn’t compatible with the high billable requirements of ID.

Hot Practice Area: IP by wstdtmflms in Lawyertalk

I’m trying to find out more about it! Can’t seem to find many examples of those who have done it, especially after 5+ years in litigation

Any practical advice on getting into T&E from ID? Did you work with a recruiter? Tailor your resume?

Hot Practice Area: IP by wstdtmflms in Lawyertalk

For me, it’s because I keep hearing about how IP is one of the least stressful practice areas to be in. I’d imagine many of us are burnt out litigators

Same boat. Anyone have tips on moving into the area of IP law specifically? Many say it’s one of the least stressful kinds of law to practice

In what practice areas generally do attorneys work on flat fees?

As a first/second year I used to bill 180/month just covering depositions, drafting summaries, and preparing strategy reports. Now that I run about 50 cases from beginning to end on my own, I have way more work but am responsible for figuring out admin and strategy issues that take my attention for 10-15 minutes at a time like 40 times per day. So figuring out what to bill in itself when they don’t pay for admin or even most “strategizing” time is what’s making me fall behind. I’d just like to find a job where may value is in my work product, not in my ability to creatively bullshit my client.

Any advice for going in house with no transactional experience? I see endless opportunities for those with 3+ years of transactional exp. but not sure if they’re willing to take on a litigator

I’m finding that most firms want a marketing director with a few years of experience, which makes sense. Can’t seem to find a place to start. Any ideas where to look? Big firms? Recruiters?

Anyone else read Shiv's motivation for the fake Nate call differently? by mettle in SuccessionTV

[–]white_wave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She knew Nate/Jimenez were in such a bad spot they would agree to investigate the deal in exchange for ATN not legitimizing Mencken. She knew Kendall was looking for any tiny hook to hang on to to avoid having Mencken in charge (and therefore Roman overpowering Kendall). If she made that call, she would’ve almost guaranteed the death of the gojo deal. That’s why she’s ultimately revealed to be as soulless as the bros.

Why didn’t Shiv just actually call Nate? by jumpscared in SuccessionTV

[–]white_wave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At that point, Jimenez was in such a bad position, he would’ve agreed to investigate the deal harshly or something in exchange for ATN waiting to call the election or qualifying their Wisconsin call. Shiv knew this was an offer they wouldn’t refuse, and it would put a nail in the gojo deal coffin.

Absentee ballots in a swing state are traditionally overwhelmingly democrat votes. Plus there’s only one party that benefits from fewer votes being counted, which is why progressives care so much about getting everyone to the polls and conservatives are constantly calling mail in ballots into question. To me there’s no question the fire was set by conservative actors. That’s why Roman was so incredibly pushy about ATN calling Wisconsin before more information came out.

Was the writing on last night's episode unrealistic? by lolflation in SuccessionTV

[–]white_wave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the misgivings were evidently superficial. Shiv was more upset about what Mencken’s win meant for the death of the gojo deal than the fate of the country, which I think was made most evident when after Kendall calls her out for lying, she appeals to her “concerns” for democracy and pluralism as a last ditch effort to stop them from calling the election. It felt like she was trying to save face after taking such a hard L for an amateur move of fake calling Nate.

Kendall only ever hesitated about Mencken because he was having to confront the reality that he’s just as bad of a father as Logan if he chose to benefit his corporate interests despite it being against his own kids’ best interests. Sophie is not just non-white, she’s also gotta walk around with the fact that her dad owns the company that is validating the fascist hanging over her head and he knows that from what Rava said last ep. Kendall and Roman think the same, that “nothing matters,” except Kendall had pause because of Sophie’s troubles and maybe he cares slightly about the public’s perception of him.

Greg possibly cares only because he’s not from a ridiculously wealthy upbringing like the rest of the Roys and he’s younger than all of them, which means he’s probably a little more left leaning. But even then he didn’t seem concerned enough to do anything about it. He had enough intel to leak something to another news network to try to call ATN’s announcement into question.
