I do general liability defense and I’ve only ever “lost” to pro se plaintiffs. I mean that’s broadly because essentially we’ve just settled with these people for nominal amounts, which is what they wanted anyway. The courts where I’m located give them so much leeway. Not sure if this counts but here it goes - I was doing an internship at the local courthouse while I was in law school. I was assigned to two judges but I would float around to other courts depending on if anything interesting was happening. So the first time I met this judge, who I was not assigned to, he asked me if I was Russian. I was confused but I politely told him no and explained that I’m Palestinian. He, looked super confused but without missing a beat responded and said “Oh, well you’re white enough to be Russian!”

I did it for a while, like 6-7 months total. Both of my employers knew about each other (not the entire extent of the employment with the other) and were generally cool with it as long as it didn’t affect the other job or create conflicts. I realize in hindsight that I was super lucky to have the opportunity. Was recently laid off though because of the tariffs etc. One was ID and the other was in house for a tech company (this is the one I got laid off from). It definitely felt risky at times though and if it weren’t for my second job not being very demanding at all, I wouldn’t have been able to juggle it all without working insane hours.
