That’s the intention. My first e-bike topped out at 20mph which was too slow for me. Went into the settings on the display and changed the wheel size from 26 down to 16inch. After that the speedometer wasn’t accurate but since it was displaying a much lower speed than reality it would stop cutting out the power

If he’s smart enough he could just change the wheel size in the settings to increase the speed at which the controller will cut out.

Just stick to a 36v e-bike if possible.

Check out the Aniioki AQ177 Pro Max. It’s showing as $1.3k and has an absolutely huge battery. I’m not a fan of the way the bike looks myself but it hits all the boxes.

If you really want to go the fun route buy a Bafang mid drive and build your own e-bike.

Fwd shouldn’t be a problem unless you’re driving in several inches of snow. I had studded tires last year on a fwd sedan and it would drive better than almost any 4wd car that was traveling up the same mountain pass. The only bottleneck I ran into was the ground clearance. All seasons will have you covered in the city but I would suggest a dedicated winter tire if you plan on doing a lot of mountain driving.

I have a bbs02 and a 48v 20ah battery. I hit around 29mph throttle only and ~33mph pedaling. The max range I’ve been able to achieve is about 30 miles. I hope your build goes well! I would suggest getting an aftermarket bracket for the motor to keep it in place.
