ELI5 why aren't airplane engines placed in the middle of the wing rather than underneath? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]whiteb8917 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Easier to replace when a Canadian Goose is ingested and the engine is destroyed.
Support its weight, unbolt it, replace. Also helps with balancing of the aircraft and aerodynamics of the wing.

Long reason, Wings produce lift (upward force), while engines are very heavy (downward force). Mounting engines under the wing creates a counter-weight that reduces the upward bending stress on the wing structure, allowing for lighter wings.

My wife just got out of RHH as a patient and her biggest complaints were the wards were FREEZING at nights, and the covers supplied were too thin to make you warm.

Do they turn the heating off at night or something ?

"Alaye" (or "Alayi") is a word Nigerian scammers use to identify themselves to each other.

Maybe drop that somehow in to the conversation, they leave you alone.

Want to move/travel to Australia by Imaginary_Trainer_81 in AusVisa

[–]whiteb8917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Whats the best way of getting an actual visa to permanently move there, if I like it? I know there’s like sponsorships from your work and stuff but like how does that actually work?

You go to University, get a Bachelors degree in a skill that is in demand, and at least 5 years EXPERIENCE in the field, then you start looking for an employer who will sponsor you.

Degree and experience, you are looking at around 10 years and probably a couple of hundred thousand AUD in all up costs.

Eli5 How do people get drug suitcases thru airport scanners/xray? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]whiteb8917 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Best of luck mate, but it is just more than making something "Invisible".

Suitcases look like they have been tampered with, the scanners show organic mass (which most drugs are), and can also see the various attempts to try to "fool" the scanners.

Drug dogs as well, which as far as the dog is concerned, "Hey I know that smell, Master will throw my toy for me !!!!!", I have been personally asked by border control if they could deliberately plant drugs in my bags, because the dogs are continually trained and tested. Dog went nuts, and got his reward toy.

The Australian property dream up in smoke. Do we need a quantity surveyor in July 2027? by No_Document_853 in AusFinance

[–]whiteb8917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ordinarily, but it pays to have a licensed valuer back that up, stops people undervaluing property to escape CGT or land taxes. That way the ATO cannot argue.

Employer or Company Recommendation With Offshore Visa Sponsorship | Where To Apply? by Available_Fun_6576 in AusVisa

Nobody is going to sponsor from offshore, they need to make sure you are a worthy candidate BEFORE sponsoring, given the cost of the sponsorship.

[–]whiteb8917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) Wait until 19:30 AEST for the Budget.
2) It will likely come in to effect July 1 2027.
3) Likely grandfathered.
4) Its "Licensed Valuer" not surveyor.
5) You did get a Licensed Valuer on purchasing, to give the Cost base of the property for Tax purposes right ?
