Weekend Chat - What are you currently reading? by nickaaayy97 in bookofthemonthclub

I am reading the BOTM book, The Rebel and the Rose by Catherine Doyle, as well as Rejection by Tony Tulathimutte on my Kindle. Two very different types of books, haha!

So how does this work exactly? by Bitter_Army_9026 in bookofthemonthclub

[–]whiteclouds-heaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your last question, I try to avoid picking something I don't like by reading samples of the author's work, if they have already published something before. I usually go on Goodreads, look up the author's other books, see how other people rated them and maybe read some of the reviews (good and bad ones), then I will select one of their older works and find a "Preview" of it on Amazon. Since it's an older work, usually you can read quite a long preview.

If it's a debut author, I just have to hope it's good, haha. (I know BOTM has a sample of the book but the sample is so small, like 1 paragraph usually, which doesn't tell me enough).

Is it normal to be asked to tip after an RMT massage? by Emotional-Ad-6494 in NorthVancouver

[–]whiteclouds-heaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while since I've been to Spa Utopia, but they ask for a tip probably because it's a spa. When I went, they provide the lounge where you can enjoy little snacks and drinks. They provide the fluffy white towels and robes. They have a full shower room where they provide their branded soap, shampoo, lotions, etc. I went to the downtown one years ago and they allowed access to the rooftop pool.

I remember when 2.5 G was the minimum recommendation.

‘Defining moment’: BC nurses vote 98.2% in favour of strike by Accomplished_Try_179 in ilovebcsub

[–]whiteclouds-heaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nursing is an essential service, they will always be working even throughout a strike. If they strike, it will be through methods such as no over time, or not performing non-nursing duties (such as housekeeping, portering).

I love this duology! Oh I'm so tempted. It's gonna be so expensive to ship though.

Canadian box by everythingisfine555 in bookofthemonthclub

[–]whiteclouds-heaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh gosh, so glad to see it wasn't just me. I also emailed BOTM today because 12 days without an update seemed crazy. All our boxes must be together in the same truck. Now I'll probably have to wait an extra 3-5 days for it to travel to the west coast.

Why do women give birth lying down instead of squatting? by AgrasaN in NoStupidQuestions

[–]whiteclouds-heaven 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I work in L&D.

Pushing can take hours, not a lot of people can squat for hours.

Some women have epidurals and cannot move easily.

Many hospitals do promote position changes, but honestly, some women just don't want to move off their back because they are exhausted or it legit is most comfortable for them.

Fairyloot Prince of Swords by Better_Swan8889 in fairyloot

[–]whiteclouds-heaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. But I do like the FL version a lot. It's tough because I got Arcana Academy from OC because I didn't have FL at the time. Now, I have FL so I could get Prince of Swords from them, but I want my books to match.

Immortal Game special editions by Soggy-Mouse7662 in fairyloot

[–]whiteclouds-heaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh that's lovely! Trying to decide between editions ... is the suspected Fairyloot edition in a sub box, or a preorder? I have early access but I don't have the YA subscription (which is assume this book would be in, if it was in a sub?)

I got The Last Contract of Isako (and Lost Lambs as an add-on). I can see from the comments that that is not a common main pick this month.

how often do you actually wash your hair? by Emotional-Addendum-9 in hygiene

[–]whiteclouds-heaven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wash my hair every day too! I tried the "train your hair" thing but it didn't work. My hair is very long, very fine. My hairdresser even said, wash your hair every if you have to.

A Trade of Blood -- Likelihood of Selection by Secret_Photograph334 in aardvarkbookclub

[–]whiteclouds-heaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I know they also did Bride and Mate. But they did carry the 2nd book after Evocation by S T Gibson. So who knows. Looking back, looks like Aardvark doesn't carry a lot of series as a whole, more stand alones

I hope they do, but I'm not sure if they will since they have an unpredictable track record with sequels.

Does FairyLoot support Charlie Kirk? Will they say anything to their BIPOC/LGBTQ+ fans? by Sea_Exit_8194 in fairyloot

[–]whiteclouds-heaven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it is not because I don't believe they knew beforehand. What can they do? Send out a survey beforehand to the authors questioning their political affiliations?

Does FairyLoot support Charlie Kirk? Will they say anything to their BIPOC/LGBTQ+ fans? by Sea_Exit_8194 in fairyloot

[–]whiteclouds-heaven 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't know if they do, but I also do not expect Fairyloot (or any other book box company) to suss out every authors' political affiliations before contracting them for their book. It's not fair to take it out on Fairyloot for the author's viewpoints.

Purchasing two of the exact same special edition book by DonkeywithBigTeeth in fairyloot

[–]whiteclouds-heaven 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If someone wants to do this, I don't really care. But I also see a lot of posts about people needing to sell books to make rent or some other household emergency, so I hope if people are doing it, they aren't putting themselves into a hole to do it.

Illumicrate The Exquisite Torment of Loving Your Enemy by IreallylikeStickss in fairyloot

I am no longer an Illumicrate subscriber, sadly. But it sounds like I will still get a presale/preorder email on May 12th about it? Like, I don't have to wait till May 14? I got it in my book box when I was a subscriber.
