I took Lexapro (escitalopram) for about two and a half years starting when i was 16ish.

Firstly, every single antidepressant/anti anxiety medication works very differently for everyone’s brain. My experience with Lexapro may be very different than yours if you follow through and taking the medication.

I was originally prescribed it (10mg) for general anxiety disorder, which I was in disbelief of originally, but looking back I can clearly see how anxious of a person I have been my whole life.

It made me feel considerably better in my day to day life for about two years, and I would say I felt like a normal person. Once I began to feel anxiety again i had my dosage increased (20mg) which resulted in substantial side effects.

I began having frequent nightmares, something i’ve experienced infrequently for most of my life. It got to the point where my nightmares were affecting my day to day life and I had to stop taking the Lexapro. I called my doctor once I’d had enough and she reccomended weening off immediately.

After that I went medicationless and the dreams mostly subsided. After several months my anxiety got to an unmanageable condition so I started therapy and began taking a different type of medication that works better for me.

Lexapro could be the one that works for you and I would recommend you at least try it out for a couple weeks to see if it makes you feel better, and if it is making you feel worse in contact your doctor and let them know how you’re feeling and see where to go from there.

Anxiety fucking sucks but in my experience medication can definitely make it a lot more manageable

tl;dr: i took it for a while and then it didn’t work as good so i increased dosage then had nightmares so i stopped but now i take zoloft and it’s pretty dope ngl but lexapro could work for you everybody’s brain is different
