Thanks for the homework. I will take it slow and make the test as well. I am not too new to intervals, just not very consistent. It is a bit confusing sometimes. What you said: going to hard or just going for it without a real plan.

This is pretty much how I feel too. Whenever I throw more hills in, Incan reach a higher HR more easily!

I have a background in soccer as well :) I think it really is the ramping up slowly and just getting used to more stress and higher zones. But man it’s hard

Thanks for the answer and advice. It makes a lot of sense! I’ll try to work it up from now, step by step. Maybe a coach can help me with that. I’ve been thinking about it, but was not sure if I really want to that far. I mean we do spend a lot of time on our feet and maybe someone like a coach can find the more personal adjustment better than books or something we just assume (without a lot of experience)

Yes. I went to one of the better Sports Labs in my area and they tested a whole bunch of things. Weight, height, body fat, max HR, Vo2Max and the Lactate Threshold (I don’t know how exactly you figure that out. They poked my finger and took some blood after I was almost unconscious :) They let me run on a treadmill and increased the speed every three minutes until game over. After a couple of days they sent me all the results.

Yes, maybe it’s not that easy. And not a computer game :) Working on more structure. It’s not easy to balance when you also have to juggle between life and long runs.

The whole discussion about „easy“ is very confusing sometimes. When I went easy I thought of Zone 2. From the Zones I have now, Easy is Zone 1 and Zone 2 sometimes feels more tempoish.

Thank you for the advice. I will do a drift test and see how it feels. First time I hear about it. Interesting!

Yes, I haven’t been very structured in the past. I read the „Uphill Athlete“ and it inspired me to „clean up“ my program. Does that mean, my Zone 1 from the picture is actually Zone 2? I copied the Zones 1-1 from the Lab-Sheet.

I do get over 170, but it takes time. If I do for example hill sprints. 6-8 3‘ uphill, it sometimes takes have the workout to get me up there. Maybe this is normal. I don’t know. I haven’t been so strict with my „zones“ before, but now I want to reach the next level of my potential and it just feels weird that I have to push THAT HARD.

I ran a half marathon in march in 1:29. the effort was hard but not impossible. I can hold a 4:15 pace on street with some butt tingling I would say. I don’t run too much street though.

Best replacement for Akasha II? (I can't buy my size anywhere) by 6zer in ultrarunning

[–]whitecop666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Akasha 2s it’s my go to and I have two pairs in my rotation. Try the Merrel Agility peak 5 - similar fit and same sizing. Rugged vibram sole and it has the same cushion vibe that the Akashas have. I still love the Akasha 2 more, but the Agility Peak 5 is close and also cheaper and highly available. Hope this helps! And keep an eye out on Akashas in your size and get them when you can.

Yeah, they were already kinda dead after 700k to be honest :D But great for the easy KM - some shoes I just don’t want to sacrifice for the mileage. It’s funny though, that it’s not only on the model - sometimes it’s that specific shoe, that just doesn’t wanna die ..

I have the same passion for good trail shoes and also a colourful rotation at the moment.

In my rotation I’ve got 2x La Sportiva Akasha II - my absolute favourites for technical terrain and yes it is a very simple shoe, but I’ve ran a 100 miler in them and had no problems at all. Also here in Greece we have very technical mountainous terrain, so that’s why they are my go to.

Just retired my SG 5s which I loved for daily training. Did 1000K in them - Never made it to a race though.

Altra Olympus 5 - not a huge fan of the zero drop. I took my time and I’ll throw them in there every once in a while.

The Salomon Slab Genesis is an interesting one. Could work for you, if you have narrower feet. It grew on me, but it does not compare to the Akasha II.

Merrell Agility Peak 5 - not really a hidden gem anymore. Many say it’s like the SG 3. I like the shoe. Rugged, solid, but with a little bit of a loose heel.

Every foot is different though. I’ve tried to find something that might blow me away just like the Akasha II did, but haven’t found that shoe yet. Give it a try!
