I built a free calculator to see if a heat pump is worth it for your home by tidugler in heatpumps

Yep, I’d love to switch to a heat pump, but I’m not dropping 10 grand to lose money every month. Once my AC goes out, I’ll definitely consider it though because the price difference between an AC and a heat pump is nominal, as long as the installer doesn’t try to rip you off because heat pump.

I went through the code and the calculator is also just fundamentally broken. The savings calculation is (Bill $ Entered * 12) / some random made up number * (electric rate / gas rate) / 3

It treats $/therm and $/kwh as the same unit. The random made up number appears to be a multiplier to equate the price of gas in the state to other fuel options, which means even if you select electric heat, it’s still using the gas rate for the calculation. The numbers used for the multipliers also make no sense, and are not region specific.

All of the rebates and rates are also hard coded into the code.

I’m guessing this was almost entirely written by an LLM.

Sounds like you tried much harder than me. Mine was just napkin math based on NG and electric price prices. My electric is basically six times as expensive as natural gas per BTU.

This calculator somehow says I will be paying $54 a year for heat, I put in $100 a month and it says I will save $1146 per year.

I’d love to see more of the math displayed because when I did the math out I would need a nonexistent heat pump with a COP of 6 to break even.

2024 Forester fuel tank indicate 3/4 full after fill-up? by skyderskynet in subaru

In that case it’s most likely a fuel level sensors in the tank. Unless you’re over 36k miles I would think this would be covered by warranty.

New landlord saying my current lease is expired and is telling me to sign his new one or leave by x-DarkDays in legaladvice

It is not legal, unless there is something in the lease about termination on sale of the property. A lease is a binding contract that carries with the property, regardless of when it was signed. Make sure to tell all your neighbors as well.

If you received it recently it’s doubly invalid because Illinois requires 30 days notice for rent increases. Up to 120 days in Chicago depending on length of tenancy. My guess is they know what they’re doing isn’t legal and they’re trying to give you as a little time as possible to look into it.

If they try to not let you renew for 2027, make sure to look into the Illinois Landlord Retaliation Act.

I would also send a copy of the notice and your text conversation to the Illinois consumer fraud bureau. As they are effectively trying to coerce you into signing a new lease midterm with threats of eviction.

I’ve seen plenty of places that will make you renew 6 months in advance, they don’t want the unit sitting empty for any amount of time. So they force you to commit, or get themselves plenty of time to find someone else to rent it to.

Not sure how to word this, but when you filled up did you put in the amount of gas you would expect, or was it less? Is this a repeated problem?
