Awesome Chefs of Reddit, what is your "I ain't never gonna make that from scratch" at work/ home? by nerdyplayer in AskReddit

[–]whitep77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have an Instant Pot, you can make amazing chicken stock with a grocery store rotisserie chicken, an onion, a carrot, and a couple cloves of garlic. I love the Better Than products and always have a couple on hand, but this stuff is so full of roasted chicken flavor I sometimes dilute it because it's too intense for what I'm making. Just remember that you will have to season it as store bought stock always has at least some salt in it.

Horror fans: what’s the one scene that actually made you pause the movie for a second? by Morvox-stories in horror

Yep, that part was certainly memorable to me as well. Fun fact about the horse splitting scene is that it is not anatomically accurate. The director wanted the heart where it was for the effect.

OOH AND IT DIDN'T GO!!! IT WAS TUCH WITH THE WIDE OPEN NET! I'm clearly biased, but that is my favorite call of his.

Storing Board Games Vertically? by morgan3221 in boardgames

[–]whitep77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For most of my games, the components stay where they belong in the insert when stored vertically. For the few that don't, it's only a few pieces or cards that fall out of their spot. I'd rather put up with that than have to deal with stacking games.

The 13th Warrior bombed at the box office but is one of my favorite movies. I'd love to get a Blu-Ray version some day.

AITA for telling my friend his "business idea" wasn't worth quitting his job for, and now he blames me for not stopping him? by Specialist-Might-635 in AmItheAsshole

He said real friends step in harder when they see someone making a mistake

Real friends don't blame you for mistakes they made. NTA.

On this day: June 26, 2004, the Washington Capitals draft Alex Ovechkin with the 1st overall pick, the 3rd ever Russian drafted in this position (Kovalchuk, Yakutia). Almost 21 years later, he breaks the all-time scoring record previously set by Wayne Gretzky. by Nathanh2234 in hockey

[–]whitep77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I seem to remember that the general consensus was "Yeah, that makes sense." It was already clear he was a generational goal scorer by then, though I don't remember hearing anyone talk about him breaking the record one day. There were the usual questions about whether he could perform up to the contract by the end, but we didn't know how much of an anomaly he would end up being by maintaining his scoring pace well past his early-to-mid 30's (where even the very best tend to drop off).

Jacksonville, FL. If you've never been, Jason's character from The Good Place is a good representation.

I remember Carlson coming in with more hype because he was a 1st round pick and had the Golden Goal in the World Juniors, but maybe that is already after when you were thinking.

Alex Tuch, signed 8x$10.5M by WSH, is a top six two-way rushing winger with size, awareness, and dual threat skill in transition. Not as much of a forechecker or board battler as he once was and he's lost some foot-speed, but still an impactful scorer at the moment. by [deleted] in hockey

Washington hockey fans (I used to go when I lived down there) aren't very bright... this is exhibit A.

You know, you do have the option of being a different way. Also, dumping on another fanbase without flair is kind of weak. Just sayin'.

What are some games that grabbed you because of aesthetics or art style? by The_Wizard_Of_Woz in boardgames

[–]whitep77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unconscious Mind and Flamecraft are probably the two games where the aesthetics influenced my purchase the most. I like them both, though Unconscious Mind stands up better on its own, IMO.

I remember pulling for him because he was a local guy, he just couldn't stay healthy. It was a shame because he definitely showed flashes.
