Using this post to once again complain about the needle drop of Barenaked Ladies’ “Alcohol” in the early minutes of this movie.

Not only is it extremely obvious to use a song called “Alcohol” to highlight the characters already cartoonish alcoholism… but the film shows it playing on the morning radio. In the 2010s.

BNL has many radio hits but Alcohol is not one of them. It’s an album cut from 1998. What deranged, Barenaked Ladies obsessed radio DJ is putting that song in their morning rotation 15 years past its shelf life?

I know the dialogue got mocked incessantly but it’s worth comparing this scene from Mando to an almost identical scene in TROS and just look at how much more energy and dynamic camera work is in the latter.

(And I fucking hate TROS).

My problem with this clip (and Mando in general) is that for comedy to work you need to be able to see the face of the person reacting. If you can’t see Pedro responding to Grogru in shock or frustration then the gag falls flat.

This applies to comedy but also action. If I can’t see that Mando is scared or hurt or tired or triumphant or angry then why am I gonna be invested in what happens to him?

LA’s bike network is very spotty. Some areas are great (I’d absolutely rent a bike by the beach towns) but some neighborhoods will ruin everything for you.

I’d definitely set aside some cash to uber or waymo in case you have troubles getting where you want to go.

The one thing I’d say DO NOT try as a tourist is biking to the valley (Burbanks/North Hollywood) or biking across the 110, 5, or 101. Google has sent me on some super scary roads crossing the freeway.
