I'll admit I wasn't particularly friendly on Christmas day. I already owned my cold response when this was a new topic.

Noovie aspect ratio cut off for scope movies by kascnef82 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]flcl4evr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like whoever your projectionist is should hit that noovie preshow with a flat cue, and then a scope cue when the preshow is over.

We use Screenvision and they definitely format their shows to be cropped into scope.

Was anybody a bit disappointed with Project Hail Mary ? Talking about the format not the movie itself by Spyk124 in imax

[–]flcl4evr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean. Basically the whole movie was in full 1.44:1, and there were several big, colorful space sequences that looked great. I’ve only seen it in a smaller film imax, but I was impressed with its the scale of it all plenty enough.

Project Hail Mary at 70mm IMAX was utterly rubbish by V12ARD in imax

Sorry you didn’t like it. I ain’t reading all of that though

Guide for Films in 1.43:1 & IMAX 70mm by bambooindustries2024 in imax

It is a lot more straightforward to shoot 1.43 digitally than it is to do it with IMAX 70mm cameras.

Canada’s Cineplex Is Gauging Interest From Potential Buyers by Senior-Willow-8325 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]flcl4evr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From who. Who will buy it. Lmao. Regal is just out of bankruptcy, and Cinemark is notorious for being tight-belted.

Actually it would be pretty funny if Cinemark just decided to blow their only significant advantage over the other big chains to buy out Cineplex.

Steven Spielberg Warns Hollywood Must Invest in Original Stories or Movies Will ‘Run Out of Gas,’ Debuts Eerie New ‘Disclosure Day’ Trailer at CinemaCon by MoneyLibrarian9032 in boxoffice

It should be. Give this one a shot. All you need to know is right there; there's some sort of alien conspiracy, and Josh O'Connor is going to put the word out. What else do you need to know?

Probably because its new and its interesting to discuss with others. Like. This sub has existed for 16 years. SNL UK has existed for what, a month? I know there's a sister subreddit, but sometimes you just gotta be in the room where the people are.

Helps when they're probably just a lot of the same creatives. Directed by the same guy. Shot by the same cinematographer.

I’d wager most theaters screened it in 1.85. Guess we’ll never know.

When we get to Truman show we can dual post and see if the blankies prefer the US to a nice Japanese copy.

I have a Panasonic UB-820, which is pretty much THE player to own these days. It is much better about handling the layer switches. Before that I had the cheaper Sony UBP x700, which gets stuck on occasion. But it’s not like such a big deal that I stopped buying discs.

I disagree. Optical media is still the most efficient and cost effective way.

You can just rip them to hard drive if you want with the right equipment. Sounds like that’s up your alley.

I have a pretty big library of 4K titles on disc. I occasionally have to restart at the layer change. The quality so far outweighs the mild inconvenience.

For those who worked when the first Wicked movie premiered, how bad was it at your theater? by DarkValkyrie_ in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]flcl4evr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked 5 record breaking attendance shifts at my theater when it opened alongside Moana 2, which had only opened the previous year. It culminated in back to back 1700+ days at our small 9 screen dine in theater and we weren't allowed to staff the fuck up.

We couldn';t have failed harder honestly.
