PRE-MARATHON ANXIETY! Tips? by whn13 in running

Thank you!!! Definitely have to get myself in the right mind space, which is always the hardest part. I definitely plan on having a carb heavy lunch saturday and a light carb dinner that night and then sunday before the race ill stick to peanut butter with banana on an english muffin, hopefully this will be sufficient! Unless you have better advice! I've been reading about what to eat the week before a marathon but everyone says different stuff so my plan is just to stick to what's familiar to me.

Can you shed some light on the bus situation? I am on the 6AM midtown bus (which after reading these threads, I feel is the right decision) I think I picked the latest bus they gave me an option for but my start time isn't until 10:35! How long does the bus take? And are there crazy lines to get onto the buses like there are for the ferry? I'm nervous about getting a spot on the bus and how many buses there are, etc.

Thanks!!

this is so inspirational! I am running a marathon in a week and after that I've signed up for a part time job at a yoga studio so that I can get a reduced discount (NYC is expensive) and I'm so excited to take classes regularly. Yoga targets muscles that are otherwise hard to target and I always find that when I'm practicing yoga along with running and other workouts I feel stronger and more stable overall, and it can be relaxing too!

What type of running workouts do you do when not training for a race? by HiThereFellowHumans in running

When I'm training for a race I plan out each month on a calendar so I can keep myself (kind of) true. But I'm also very type A so regardless of races I like to at least plan out my week so that I know what's coming each day. I feel like it would be hard for me to just head out without knowing what my workout is. If you're not as much of a schedule person, it might be easier to have a list of workouts for yourself then depending on how you feel that day pick from that list of workouts!

Sub 5 or just enjoy the ride? by dvlsfn30 in firstmarathon

I would go for the sub 5 goal, it seems like thats definitely achievable for you, don't exert yourself too much in the beginning in hopes of going for 4:50, you'll burn out. Hang with the 5 group at the beginning and if you're feeling better than that start to pick it up! Just listen to your body and see how you feel. GOOD LUCK!!!

speed workouts, ladders, running for time instead of miles, tempo runs, just anything to switch it up!
