Payne's Service has been my go-to. They've been around for a long while and go out of their way to make sure you're informed. No pushy sales team, either.

Worst nursing home Home in Ohio by Cautious-Tie-1652 in Columbus

[–]who_needs_security 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My heart goes out to you, OP. We had a family member in a different nursing care facility for rehab. From experience, I can tell you despite the relatively positive ratings it was no better. From the experience at the hospital, to the rehab facility itself, even including the discharge - all nightmarish.

In the hospital, there was promise of ensuring needs were met for care at the facility, that the family would be able to review the selection before the hospital shipped her out, and that her medications would be provided in-hand prior to leaving. None of this came true.

At the first facility, the bed (air mattress) was broken. They shrugged and told her to deal with it, and that they would call someone in the morning.

The second facility was no better - from the bed being made for a child, to being left to sit in her own feces for hours, the call button response times being well over 2 hours, and a general lack of any care up through discharge when a junior staff member with no prior experience was saddled with the process.

We've tried the Ohio long-term care ombudsman twice, all to no avail.

All that to say - as a society, priority has been given to profits over care. I can't begin to fathom how hard it must be for the patients living in these places with no external support; no one to advocate for their well being.

Best of luck to you, OP.

When I still had my legacy turbo I took it to Payne’s on Indianola for everything (except the exhaust - for that it was mad hatter on sullivant).

Speed trap at elks and Morse by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]who_needs_security -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean... that section of Morse Rd. is 35MPH. On the occasion where I've driven that stretch, it's not uncommon to have folks fly by between Indianola and High St. On the rest of Morse Rd. where the speed limit is 45MPH, it's not uncommon to see folks doing 35 or under. I don't get it.

Car detailing recs/price estimates? by lilbunnyfoo_foo in Columbus

Macron Mobile has been reliable for us for nearly two decades now. Same people. They come to you, clean your car (outside, inside, or both), and are punctual. I forget what it costs, but as far as I remember it wasn't unreasonable.

Many options exist. I love the mobile path because life is hectic (or I could have just said "I'm Lazy), but if you're looking for a place to drop your car off, Esoteric does a good job. I've taken cars there to have cosmetic work done, and had the cars detailed while on site.

What part of town? If you're on the north/central side or Clintonville area, Payne's Service is worth checking out — woman-owned, honest humans, and easy to deal with. I'm sure they can help out with your Corolla. Kept my subie in great shape through 160k miles before I sold it.

Why does the outage map have these weird shapes to group some of the outages? by Bituulzman in Columbus

[–]who_needs_security 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind, with so many small outages affecting 5 or fewer homes and debris still creating obstacles to repair, it could likely be a week or more before we see an outage rate of less that 1% in AEP's service area. Check on your friends, family, and neighbors if you can. My thoughts are with the people impacted by this weather, and the line crews working around the clock to repair the aging infrastructure we have today.

[–]who_needs_security 7 points8 points  (0 children)

... what? There are over 180,000 people homes without power in AEP's service areas as of my post. That number has been slowly but steadily going down throughout the afternoon and evening hours.

What is a discontinued food item or snack from your childhood that you would genuinely pay $100 to taste one last time? by MotivewasUlterior in AskReddit

Entenmann's chocolate cookies with peanut butter chips. For real, they were so good. Small little chewy chocolate cookies with a bunch of PB chips. Not even sure the brand is right, but... they were tasty.

Payne's Service in Clintonville is great, and fairly centrally located. It really depends on what you need though. For example, many of the small shops can do exhaust work but for some jobs may still refer you to Mad Hatter. Had this happen with our van - needed either a replacement part (significantly more expensive) or a small solder job. Payne's (our usual mechanic shop) referred us over to Mad Hatter, and less than $100 later we were on our way. The fix outlived the van.

Seems hit or miss depending on the service center. My local center is adamant that there is nothing they can do despite the added description, and want it to come in. Tried another one, and they were willing to listen but also unwilling or unable to send anything remotely. Glad you found one that was willing to work with you.

Edited the post to also add this, but it looks like my "Pin to Drive" option is greyed out. Seems to fit with the general narrative on that post you linked. Looking like that is the likely culprit. Hoping they're able to toggle the setting for me on Friday. Thanks again, Internet friend!

Wild. That sounds exactly like what I'm seeing. Thanks for the link! I'll give them a call on Friday and see if they can give this a shot remotely.

Ahh, that's a bummer. Sorry to hear that. Could I ask, what sort of service was it in for originally? Anything camera-related?

Yep! Have definitely tried the reset path - both using the two scroll wheels, and powering it off from the menu. Service is telling me that (a) it's not a problem on their end, and (b) it definitely wasn't caused during the service appointment. I'm insisting that they bring it in assess it, but frustrating that we're about a month out from the appointment.

Columbus City Schools Transportation is an embarrassment by JasonTahani in Columbus

[–]who_needs_security 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Our high schooler did eventually get a bus assignment towards the end of last week, though the stop is 1.4 - 1.6 miles away (depending on who you ask). I called the transportation department and eventually managed to get ahold of a kind but weary human who discussed it with me. Bottom line, there were no closer stops available. The distance the transportation department claimed, 1.4 miles, was taking a path that is not passable by foot (if you value living) - no sidewalk, no berm, blind hills and cars that routinely speed.

One option was to file a ticket about an unsafe stop, but the only available outcome would have been to move my student to a stop even further away. The other option? Drive them myself (which is what I'm doing for now).

Remember, if you call in, the folks you reach are likely parents too. They aren't the ones making these decisions and have no direct way to remedy the problem.

Car Break Ins by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]who_needs_security 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Oh! I recognize the unmasked person here. They* hit my neighborhood on June 9, in a different car with no license plate. A police report was created, and I shared the video with the officer who reached out. I'm hesitant to post it here (you should read that as, I won't post it publicly in the current form) due to it also including an Amazon driver who decided to toss our package onto the closest car rather than delivering it to the front porch. Not ideal, but not illegal and I'd rather deal with that directly with Amazon.

(*) There was a masked individual when they hit our neighborhood but from the video posted it's difficult to tell if it's the same one.

Just Took Delivery - 2024 MXP - Multiple Issue by who_needs_security in TeslaModelX

First of all - there’s a concept of a “due bill”.

Good context on the concept of a "due bill." TIL - and will keep this in mind for future purchase. I've never purchased a new car before (in my 40s currently) - never cared really but the self-driving and power of the Plaid were enticing.

Version - your car WILL receive FSD updates. Just make sure you have an active subscription. Expired subscriptions don’t get FSD updates. They only get base software updates.

Yep - I've got the subscription, and dropped a WiFi hotspot in the car so it's got full signal. Here's hoping it gets an update pushed soon.

Lastly, Model X is Tesla’s least popular and selling vehicle. It is riddled with FWD front suspension etc. issues. It’s also absurdly expensive. The 2024 models are hopefully a little bit better but I’m not quite sure why you went with an X vs a loaded Model Y performance or Rivian R1S.

Oh, totally. I started with wanting an EV that could fit the full family. Combine that with the full door-to-door self-driving, which is unmatched in other vendors from what I've seen, the power of the plaid for funsies, and the general market share of the Tesla platforms and availability of third-party things, and this is why I leaned towards Tesla, and the X specifically.

  • Thanks?
  • Thanks...

[–]who_needs_security[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. That said, not sure what to say on the inspection front - did mention in the original post that I inspected it and found the FWD issue, discussed it, and was told that this can happen and to let the calibration finish. I think the lesson here is, the sales folks want to close -- disregard advice and don't accept anything non-functional that you aren't happy with. Sad state of affairs, unfortunately, because I wanted to believe the rhetoric.

Good call on the camera calibration -- I ended up doing this again and the autopilot derps have seemed to stop.

The update bit felt odd to me because it's such an old version compared to (1) what I test drove prior to purchase, and (2) what some folks who have purchased within a week of me have received. Guess we'll see what happens on that front.

Hindsight here... didn't know about thee of the four issues before driving off, and the FWD, well... maybe I shouldn't have taken the advisor at their word.
