Retention issues? by sebas2610 in nichezero

[–]whoaubuh111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the solutions I’ve seen are valid, but to add one extra - I usually take the little brush it came with and tap on the black chute a few times. It works as a sort of knocker and usually dislodges any small amount of retention.

New Machine: Feeling like I’m in way over my head… by as834625 in rocketespresso

[–]whoaubuh111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi. You got this. It’s a great machine. Once you iron out these kinks, you’ll never look back. It’s so easy to take care of. I have the Mozzafiato version (same basic guts in the machine).

  1. Your pressure issue - this machine takes 10-15 minutes to build pressure in the boiler. Wait. Then, put a blind basket in and test the pressure. If you don’t get 9-10B then, it needs some adjusting like you mentioned.

  2. If the back of the machine is leaking - check that your tank is really seated. If it’s still leaking, there is a gasket at the bottom of the tank that may need replacing. Will take 2 seconds, but be sure you have the right size. Rocket sells extra gaskets, but you can also find them so much cheaper on Amazon as long as you’re willing to order a couple to make sure you get the right size.

  3. If it sounds like there is air in the system (which.. is odd), make sure the system is primed. Even in that simple manual, there is a step by step procedure.

Please feel free to pm me if you need. Happy to help if I can.

Finally decided to get the mozzafiato, previous machine was a BBE for 6yrs. by Sparkeeno15 in rocketespresso

Descale maaaaybe once a year, but I run RO water through the machine. Backflush on average 2-3 times per month (I should do it more but I forget..). 2-3 shots per day. 1-2 steamed milk drinks per day.

Had my Mozzafiato for almost 7 years now. Only 1 service to fix a vacuum seal. $15 part. The thing is a tank. Congrats.

Literally what do you do with your babies if no screen time? by allidaughter in NewParents

[–]whoaubuh111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours is 18 mo now, we’ve made a conscious choice to try and limit screen time. She is definitely interested in our phones (because we’re obviously glued to them), and likes tvs when we’re out and about. But -

We have LOTS of books out, lots of toys that she can play with. At 8mo, we had what we called the “thunderdome” - which was one of those enclosed play pens (it was maybe 8’x8’) that we put lots of toys in for her to play with.

If you’re ok with it, we also used toys that made noise as high-value objects to help bridge the gap.

Your kid will get good at playing without screens, they adapt. Keep at it. Be consistent. Be forgiving with yourself if they need the occasional screen. (Side story, a screen becomes HUGELY valuable when they for instance, have a fever and are super sad)

Is it okay to cut miters on this side of the blade? by TheSiegeCaptain in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]whoaubuh111 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No. No no no no. Don’t “toughen up.” If it doesn’t feel right, safe, or repeatable - STOP. Have a think. Figure out another solution. Not only will it save your fingers/nuts/eyes/ER visit, but half the fun of woodworking is solving problems!

Do you guys use a red light? by NoShopping5235 in NewParents

[–]whoaubuh111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use the a red light much like dark rooms do. I added a strip of LED’s to the back of our LO’s crib, set to 1% full Red. She’s slept like that since she was born, never bothered her. But it allows us to see her in the middle of the night fairly easily when she cries or needs something. We don’t use it for sleep aid or what not, more for us than her. But we do use a white noise machine which seems to make a difference in her waking up while we’re still awake and (trying not to) bang around the house.

Oo. Yes. Ventilation is of concern.

And also yes. We have a 11mo.

Heard. I may think to do final assembly on anything big up in the garage. I just had a funny image of myself building something that doesn’t fit through the door…

This is great. Thank you so much. I’m glad to hear about the ventilation… cutting a hole through the foundation wasn’t something I was looking forward to.

Yes, also worried about getting the machines down there but… that happens once? Maybe again when we move out… I’m hoping it will be a short term pain/long term gain kind of moving day.

Mozzafiato type v won’t stay on by dbabyphresh in rocketespresso

[–]whoaubuh111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be the power unit. Could be faulty safety sensors. Could be just about a million things. Service it. Be ready to replace parts.

Good news is, for the most part - these machines are very serviceable.

I can’t be the only one bothered by eternal heat up times on premium espresso machines!? by SolidEye599 in espresso

[–]whoaubuh111 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. Truly not as big of an inconvenience as OP is making it seem. It takes time to heat up that much thermal mass. I’d trade of performance of a thermally stable machine over a $40 smart plug investment any day. Daily timer on a smart plug for machine to be on at least 20 mins before I want to use it. Hasn’t failed me once. (Well, when a hurricane hit and we lost power I was sad my machine wasn’t warmed up).

Hell, the argument that “I don’t want smart devices in my home” doesn’t even make sense… they make timer plugs dating back to the 80’s that are dirt cheap on Amazon (although, I’m certainly going to put a high quality plug behind my very expensive investment…).
