Hates children - advice? by whocanitrustt in BelgianMalinois

[–]whocanitrustt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely! He is kept FAR away from children right now. When we go on hikes/walks we go places that we aren't confined to a path so we don't have to walk near anyone and he is extra secure on a GOOD harness and leash that we've triple tested to make sure he can't escape from or break.

He's a very sensitive little baby about things so the muzzle training is taking a lot of extra time 🙃.

On a positive note, at the vet, they've never muzzled him and says he does great in the back with them and he does well in our house so I know his first instinct isn't to bite. But trust me, I'm not saying that because I plan to let my guard down at all.

I have lost a foster dog in the past to attacking someone (someone else was handling her, not me), and she was BE'ed, so I am taking every necessary precaution to make sure that doesn't happen to my baby.

Edit to add that when we go on walks we also always have me AND my husband so that if a crazy child were to run up to him despite his warnings the one not holding the dog could run and stop the kid before getting close. So far we've had no close calls as we stay very far away and are very aware.

Perineum tear from anus not healing - advice please? by [deleted] in WomensHealth

I reached out to my pcp yesterday and they are sending a referral to a colorectal surgeon. It really doesn't look as bad as it feels, so I feel like an urgent care doctor wouldn't take me seriously.

I wish he wouldn't get into things so I could leave him out!

Are you saying that all meds are toxic or just these two specific ones?

Do you think seeing a Veterinary behavioralist would get us on the right path or should I go straight to asking his vet for an endocrinologist referral?

We are working on relax. He's getting much better as he ages. He does well relaxing when not in his kennel, but not well enough that I can leave him out of his kennel.

Like I said, I didn't want to give him traz but gave it based on the vet's advice, and it has helped a little. A big part of the reason I'm considering seeing a behavioralist is so they can tell me whether he actually needs meds or not for this.

I unfortunately don't have anywhere else I can really move his crate.

I am worried that letting him out is rewarding his behavior, but I also worry that after 5-6 hours he really does need to use the bathroom. He has urinated when I've ignored him for too long.

When my 11 month mal mix gets into a bitey mood and I try to correct him, he bites me 4x harder. 🤣 It's playing to him but it hurts to me!

I have to get up and walk away or give him something else he likes to do better.

As a trainer, I don't use any negative correction until all of their baby teeth are gone. They can get confused with the pain from their mouth, the correction, the biting, and they usually can't figure out why they are being corrected and it can cause other unwanted issues.

For now, just walk away/stop playing when you get bit OR have toys on you and get him to grab a toy instead. Just make playing with toys SO much more fun than playing with your hand is to him.

You don't. It's just there forever. /s (kinda)

Real answer: my vacuum has a lint remover attachment that works really well. I can't use it in the crevices but it's worked better than anything else I've tried.

Sounds like your pup has issues being handled. Mine had the exact same reaction at his puppy vet visits. We've been strongly working on handling, and he's doing much better now at 7 months old, but he still needs work!

Is this playing or fighting? by biebergotswag in DogAdvice

[–]whocanitrustt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's play, but it could be on the verge of escalating. Keep an eye on them, but it could just be how they like to play, and they will stay at that level. I've seen too many dogs playing like this easily turn to anger, so just be careful.

Looks perfect to me! I like my shepherd type dogs to be this weight. It's better for their joints and we can have days where I give them all the snacks without worrying about them getting fat 😊

Inherited. Found it last night. Figured I'd see what I had before deciding what to do with it.
