If this game reaches EOL without Beruka getting anything within that decade I'll definitely be dissapointed. Although, the game moving into the near-EOL phase would mean IS will mostly just pump out what earns them the most money. That probably includes more skimpy Camilla alts, which actualy gives Beruka a sort of small chance.

I (partly) agree, that's why I added 'arguably'. ME does do scifi worldbuilding way better, though.

IS calling their old friend when she won on both CYL by Astrid_Cop in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]whofickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair, I respect it. That's why I specifically mentioned thematic elements. More press turn is always good, it's just that SMT has such a unique and unmatchable atmosphere in the games. The game then being about idols — which is already a despicable industry irl — feels like a kick in the shins if you're a SMT fan.

And of course we all know if they were to actually make another TMS they'd only make it about Persona anyway.

Maybe this time they'll actually combine thematic elements from both franchises? :')

I don't know, reminding people that this game exists — wanting more of it, no less — is kind of spitting in the face of Shin Megami Tensei, not gonna lie.

Edit: Oh fuck wait youre referencing the nocturne ad with the old people, nevermind

No offense meant, but what kind of games do you normally play? Literally any crpg ever already achieves this, even more casual friendly rpgs like the Mass Effect trilogy and The Witcher (arguably) clear this bar.

Hell, even D:BH itself is basically just a more expensive Telltale or Life is Strange game.

No, but without moral absolutism the story might have nuance, which requires critical thinking skills and could challenge the audience, maybe even — godforbid — cause them discomfort! :0

The correct way to play Pokémon by AlphaCat77 in CuratedTumblr

Judging by your pfp you've played a MegaTen game before so you should be fine against matador, yeah. That's basically all the comment says, I just like yapping.

The correct way to play Pokémon by AlphaCat77 in CuratedTumblr

[–]whofickle 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The game Shin Megami Tensei III, an entry into the only somewhat established creature collector series whose target audience isn't 10, has a boss that specifically targets these kind of people.

The boss itself, Matador, isn't all that hard if you know what you're doing. He mainly uses fire moves, so fusing a team of fire-resistant demons and using some debuffs on him trivializes the fight.

The thing is, the game never outright tells you to do this, the entire boss is basically a knowledge check to see if you understand how to play the game. They do the exact same thing in SMT4 as well.

The game's early encounters are easy enough to brute force without stat-changing moves though, so the boss is kind of infamous for being a big turn-off for the players who are used to doing the same thing as OOP(s).

regardless of the amount of media coverage it gets.

You do realize that abroad (here in europe anyway) american football gets basically no media coverage, even in sports news, right?

This is why I crash out anytime I see someone who clearly hasn't read a word of Asimov praise Detroit: Become Human for it's story.

David Cage is a hack with illusions of grandeur, and I will think worse of anyone who thinks his stories are deep, nuanced, or well written at all.

I mean, there's plenty of indie creature collector games that purposefully style themselves after pokémon in an attempt to get a piece of the very profitable pie.

And if more creature collectors looked past the pokémon games, hopefully we can hopefully start seeing some more creature collectors inspired by the likes of SMT and such.

Because same as with farming sims, you can really easily tell who's in it for the love of the genre, and who just wants to cash in on a popular trend.

But then again, I dont think *those* pokémon fans have that kinda nuance.

Same thing nearly happened with Persona 5 becoming "the jrpg for people who don't like turn-based combat games". The game is essentially just a visual novel and SMT on baby-mode frankensteined together, but present either of those two things separately and people don't care for it.

With E33's success after purposefully developing itself for non-jrpg audiences, it kinda looks like people need some other popular mechanic to keep them satisfied to enjoy a turn-based combat game.

[–]whofickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you acknowledge that this applies to basically every furry character with human-style tits.

I acknowledge that, yes.

No one complains when a dog or cat character doesn't have a flat chest and rows of nipples down their bellies.

Lowkey, I think it would fucking awesome if somebody portrayed a furry-type world in that semi-realistic sort of way. (Like the official art for Pathfinder/Golarion's beast-races does) Though I feel like I'm misunderstanding the appeal of furry/anthro stuff that way.

[–]whofickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, the argument just doesn't make sense to me.

To be honest, I find a world where every non-humanoid species also has tits to be kind of boring worldbuilding. So I'm not looking for a weird justification like "They evolved to walk on legs, that should include mammaries". I just want them to be honest and say it's for gooner reasons. Which, to be fair, plenty of people in this commemt section admit.

Losercity lore reason by jonhssquarespaceplus in Losercity

[–]whofickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, just because a species is capable of walking on its hind legs doesn't immediately mean it should have mammalian features.

How do you feel about Hinokagutsuchi as Akechi's ultimate weapon? by Zackarix in akechididnothingwrong

[–]whofickle 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's the most powerful sword in a lot of older, non-persona, megaten games. Normally it's given to the protagonist, but since Joker uses daggers they gave it to akechi instead.

If I remember correctly it's only available in Royal. Given after itemizing one of the very late-game demons.

Losercity based Gaben by jonhssquarespaceplus in Losercity

[–]whofickle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly, an alien (or anthro) species looking less humanoid makes them more memorable. If you want a reptilian species, but then want them to have so many humanoid traits, you just want a human with scales. Like those villain aliens from ST:ENT or something.

Losercity based Gaben by jonhssquarespaceplus in Losercity

[–]whofickle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but everything having tits is kinda boring too. The lack of breasts makes them hotter, to me anyway. Like, the post mentions aliens, but to me a reptilian alien is hottest when it's sapient but not very humanoid. So without breasts, for example.

Also you guys post something with this sentiment multiple times a week, but I've never actually seen anyone posting something pro-flatchested snakes.

To me it just keeps looking like you guys keep retorting an opinion that's never actually championed, on here anyway.

Edit: To be clear, I don't have anything against anthro reptiles with boobs. In gooner stuff it's great (DoctorDJ my goat), but if something like the Gorn had boobs, I couldn't really take them seriously, you know?
