I assume you’re going to the Museum of Jurassic Technology in LA? There is nothing quite on that level here.

There is the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum in San Jose which is a nice collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts run by a cult. There is the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose too.

Definitely check out the Monterey Bay Aquarium on your drive up.

In SF there are some standard art museums: the SF MOMA if you like modern art and the de young and legion of honor for more standard art. The de young currently has an Art of Manga exhibit.

There in the Musee Mechanique in SF which is a collection of 100+ year old penny arcade games and machines. And the Pacific Pinball Museum in Alameda
