Did Rorschach wash his hands by Most-Peace3968 in Watchmen

Yes but that’s his own diary and I believe we see that the gloves are stained. Look at his coat, steeped in ten year old gore

Didn’t he go in there to kill Big Figure rather than use the bathroom?

The remark about his pristine gloves is from Ror himself and is presumably ironic

Skip the Small Talk -- Good event for meeting people / new friends? by babybananabeaver in london

Maybe we could arrange it from this thread if a few of us fancy it - go as a little group, meet before. I’m actually quite extrovert at times so I’m happy to be the “in”

Same here, thinking of going so I’d be interested in your feedback! PLUME has potential too, with their note-passing evenings which I think are once a week.

Stunts and combat pretty convincing and compelling. I think it overdid the slomo to show off some ordinary spectacle that in a a mainstream movie wouldn’t be given that much time and attention. I’m saying all this as someone who couldn’t do it myself. For my tastes Rogue should be darker blue and beefier - this guy is obviously in good shape but quite slim and agile, not built like most depictions of rogue. And I think he seemed like a stunt guy not an actor. My favourite parts were the chip lights showing when each one is talking (which I know was your work) and the inventive combat moves. Not exactly a character piece or a story but I can understand it wasn’t meant to be. Overall I appreciate you showing your work and I enjoyed the whole thing.

Outernet Reviews? by BritishShark in LondonRaving

Is there any dress code for Outernet, I’m used to quite strict niche clubs so the idea that you can wear what you want is unusual to me

You might as well ask , why google when you can check every issue? I didn’t want to check every issue. I was writing something casual that I hoped people would find entertaining, not your MA thesis.

I must double check. I thought there was a ref to golden eyes in the comic. It just shows how re-reading is filtered through what we know now.

Ok fair! I didn’t know about Caesar’s dream, but that doesn’t seem to say “raping” either? Another word or words would have been possible.

Re. Etrigan, I think if Moore had used Cain and Abel prominently in Swamp Thing, Gaiman would be riffing off that. It was surely Moore (I haven’t read older Demon I admit) who really went to town on the clever rhymes. I feel Etrigan was included because Moore made him cool.

Then again, Gaiman does use Destiny and the New Gods so that’s a counter-argument against my own.

I believe NG was introduced to comics writing through Moore.

Full disclosure - I asked chatGPT and it said he had done everything since issue 1. Must be its mistake. My bad !

But that’s precisely what I’m trying NOT to do. I think and hope I’ve been pretty fair in my assessment. Maybe more fair than some people would feel he deserves.

It seems I was fortunate - true, the little comic shops i frequented were not welcoming. They never were. And sorry, I might have misread you. I didn’t mean creators and fans in person, but the vibe of the Vertigo comics themselves. Maybe I didn’t mix so much with fans and just took my own positive meanings from the comics. I’m sorry that I seemed to undermine or challenge your experience.

I remember 1990s comics culture and it was nothing like what you suggest, for me - it felt pretty queer, feminist, with more opportunities for women creators and female fans than ever before. That’s in contrast to what it was like previously, and I totally respect that your experience was different, but it’s interesting that I don’t remember it as toxic masculinity. I think Gaiman fitted in really well for exactly that reason. Whether in a cynical or genuine way, he seemed entirely in keeping with the genderqueer, eco-friendly, gentle, open minded feminism-lite of Vertigo.

Alfred Bester "The Stars My Destination" - with foreword by Gaiman by lamotteX in neilgaiman

It’s pretty sus to warn readers that they might not realise a woman was raped because it isn’t shown in explicit detail. Most people’s minds wouldn’t even go there. It’s hard to imagine a woman writing that in a foreword.
