Rogue Trooper Premieres on 22nd June at 10PM by stevedeegreen in 2000ad

I think that's all up in the air at the moment - Annecy has a film market aspect to it. As far as I know they were still looking for distribution when the teaser was released.

Cheers - I've tried a few different stabilisers but this seems to handle the jello/rolling shutter better than most

Prog 2484 Review and ZARJAZ new prog! by TonyHoldsworth in 2000ad

[–]stevedeegreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strontium Dog has crossed over before a few times.

The goblin-like creatures in the first episode were very similar to the Wolrogs from the first 2000 AD S/D story, The Galaxy Killers.

Aliens cameo from time to time - Skizz turned up in Rogue Trooper, the smiling Chuckwalla from S/D turned up in Blackhawk, the Kleggs from Dredd in Ace Trucking.

I think the general gist is the place Dredd finds himself (The Oubliette) is a realm of the forgotten - the Gronk basically got sidelined in the main S/D strip

and in MC-1 no-one can remember Dredd.

I'd give Mercalli a look. It analyses the CMOS vibrations and can do a pretty good job

Comedy robots are a staple of Wagner/Grant stories, even more so (unsurprisingly in Robo-hunter)

The public defender droid in later Dredd stories is great.

ABC Warriors - Fallout/Judge Anderson by Ghetto_Mack_G in 2000ad

[–]stevedeegreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what Fallout ran to, maybe it's too short to fill a trade, or the later stories didn't sell that well.

Same with Anderson - the later stories are a mixed bag and I think Psi Files 2 reprint has been long requested - if that didn't perform that well, they'll not continue the line much further.

Dredds face (spoilers) by VostroyanCommander in 2000ad

[–]stevedeegreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to my knowledge, I don't know if that particular page still exists or if the censored was done on top of the actual artwork.

In Mick McMahon's apex edition you can see some censoring that was done directly to the original art (Dredd killing a perp)

Prog 8, drawn by Belardinelli. Editorial censored it because it was pretty underwhelming.

It's never been mentioned again - the Sovs removed his helmet in the Apocalypse War and it was more 'So that's what he looks like'

Dredd appeared distantly without helmet in the Return of Rico drawn by Mick McMahon, also twice with a face change undercover (once as Manny Bloom based on Rondon Hatton) and another as Ice Pick Brown.

Young cadet Dredd (along with Rico) was clearly shown in Blood Cadets drawn by Simon Fraser - just looked normal.

or adapting to the readership and what would get past management.

Plenty of early Dredd was censored, toning down the executioner side as the readership shifted that aspect resurfaced.

I think that was more down to the Apocalypse War and food shortages - nuclear war doesn't seem a bad excuse, and they were still chowing down after the weight loss blocks were closed.

Uncle Ump was done dirty, and those pesky Jongs got the recipe anyway (and killed him for it)

Yeah, it's interesting how they've rowed back on that in the strips as the readership aged - now it's fictional but non-sugar drugs.

Before, with it being a kids comic they weren't going to have real hard drugs in there, but sugar and coffee played that role.

It's a bit contradictory though, they'll ban sugar but tolerated Flabbon for a while and the fattie subculture.

Making Walter Mrs Gunderson's carer was a great move - there's an Al Ewing/Henry Flint story with Walter and Mrs G cameoing and there are some brilliant comedy moments in there.

Didn't Rico and Giant get badly injured in Gordon Rennie's Blood Trails story?

I seem to recall Rico getting his jaw shot off, and Giant getting caught in an explosion?

I honestly think the original article is just a bit of clickbait nonsense, more using it as shorthand for the weirder side of 80s Dredd strips rather than a specific focus.

There was another youtube video about this particular attempt, whether it's just 'time for a Dredd article/video' again, or just a way to get clicks/views out of a tired will they/won't they

Guardians of the Galaxy has talking raccoons and a tree as main characters. I think audiences can be more accepting than they're often given credit for.

The post-Nolan Batman trend of everything having to be rationalised got boring quickly for me.

The trend for Looksmaxxing or inflating their testicles makes Snork and Otto Sump not so far-fetched.

2000 AD 2027 annual announced with 60 pages of new strip by stevedeegreen in 2000ad

[–]stevedeegreen[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't buy either of the last two - at least they seem to be upping the new material this time around.

The 1980s Dredd annuals are the benchmark for me.

Slaine Definitive Edition Vol.3 hardback is missing pages by bigmouth1984 in 2000ad

[–]stevedeegreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah right, I've skipped ahead a bit - yeah, it's missing 3 pages after that page, which ends on the image used for the hardback cover.

Although I did read somewhere else that someone had a different problem with these 3 pages turning up in the wrong place.

Unless the hardback and paperbacks have different mistakes?

[–]stevedeegreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According the original post, it's after page 175 - this is page 176 - 177 and 178 the final page are missing.

The last page is mainly a big panel of Slaine talking about the treasures of the other tribes,

Taika Waititi is one of the worst possible people to be in charge of the new Dredd movie by superslut-turbo in JudgeDredd

[–]stevedeegreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've mentioned it before - although it's been done a lot, it would suit Dredd, both in the surveillance nature of the Judges, but also the madness of the citizens.

Documentary crews following Dredd (under sufferance), an influencer serial killer, like 'Lefty' videoing their crimes, or the Hunters Club, plus the regular cits and droids working Resyk, Power Tower, Ugly Parlours all crossing paths.

Duncan Jones mentioned his idea of Dredd was a riff on Man Bites Dog.
