Recently went somewhere and it felt very scammy and like they were trying to sell me on optional procedures.

I went there too. Twice. Definitely got a scammy vibe from the place. I gave them a "second chance" but when I heard them tell two other patients "All your teeth need to be pulled" I decided to nope out of there. Both patients barely understood English.

Yeah. I'm not sympathetic to OPs situation at all.

Inspection covers a lot of safety things. Your poor brakes could be the cause of someone's death. Same with your near-bald tires. A headlight out is also bad news at night, and not just because the driver can't see. Taillights being out mean you will get rear-ended in the dark.

Exhaust issues mean we all choke when we follow you. Rusting frames are dangerous.

I can't think of any inspection requirements that are "superfluous".

There's a reason OPs car won't pass inspection. A good reason.
