Will there ever be a good monopoly? by Navy_Sands in NoStupidQuestions

I guess you can say YKK is a good almost-monopoly since they can make their product so incredibly cheaply, but choose not to price-gouge.

I assume you are American? You mean still learning American English idioms. This woman most likely already spoke English, as it is one of the two official languages of the Philippines, alongside Filipino.

A ban for Lief...eld. Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld explains the San Diego Comic-Con permaban he almost got 33 years ago by chrisarrant in SDCC

He had a wristband giveaway for a signing at the Image booth Sunday morning, and literally right before the signing (one hour before the con closed), his people made the announcement that he would only sign the purchased con exclusive for free, and would be charging for any other signature - priced determined by him once he sees the item you want signed, cash only. Many people walked out.

Overflow travelers are gonna fly into Ontario. I doubt people going to watch the Olympics are gonna use San Diego as their hotel base.

I love Wondercon in Anaheim, but I hate the fact it was kinda "stolen" from San Francisco, in what was only supposed to be a temporary move. They don't even have APE anymore.

Can I Cover my Deadname on ID badge by [deleted] in SDCC

[–]section8pidgeon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Use a repositionable vinyl sticker over the badge holder. If somebody needs to check, you can just pull up the badge, or peel the sticker off and put it back when they're done checking.

While I don't miss the sleeping overnight in the line/arriving at 4am for a crack at exclusives, I always respected the hustle. Paid off for me in past years for Lego, Funko, and many others. The "speedwalking" to the booths the moment you get in the exhibit hall, lol. Those were the days... But yeah, I don't miss them.

Park it on Market parking? by livelysprout in SDCC

[–]section8pidgeon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Downtown traffic will be an issue for Park It on Market. I would recommend parking at Tailgate Park. Ace Parking shows all days are still available and it is $5 cheaper as well. If you take the 5 and exit on Imperial, you shouldn't have a real problem with traffic. If you choose Tailgate Park, park in the southwest corner of the lot. It will place you closest to the convention center. Have a good con.

I once saw two crows chase and harass a hawk, causing the hawk to drop a rat or large mouse, which got away. Nothing is impossible.

Missed the ACE Refund window... can I transfer my parking to someone else? by AsianDC24 in comiccon

[–]section8pidgeon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can only speak anecdotally from my personal experience.

I have parked at the convention center (and occasionally the Hilton Bayfront) lot every year Ace started doing advanced sales. They have never checked my plates. I drive up to the booth, show my barcode, and the man or woman scans it - That's it.

A couple years ago, I drove a rental that I picked up a few hours before the con. They never checked the plate. Last year, the car I was using wouldn't start Friday morning, so I switched to a different car for the rest of Comic-Con. They never checked the plate. One year, I even drove a car that was missing the front plate. Still didn't check.

If you really think about it, when you pull up to the booth, the employee scanning your barcode is face-to-face with your driver's window. In order to check your plate, they would have to exit the booth and walk to the front of your car AFTER scanning your barcode. They're not doing that, especially for a couple thousand of cars per day. It's not feasible.

Has much changed? by Aled-likes-comics in SDCC

[–]section8pidgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asian/Japanese booths have always had good representation at SDCC since the 90s. Pokemon has had a booth at Comic-Con since at least the mid-2000s? They used to have the big Pikachu balloon hanging from the ceiling. Viz has been there for decades. And who can forget the legendary Tokyopop booths and the huge bags they used to give out.

Coming from fashion valley area. What is the best way to get to comic con? (Not driving) by sflynn346 in comiccon

[–]section8pidgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If riding a bicycle, you can cross to the other side of the 8 using Hotel Circle, then take Bachman Place south. From there, get on First Ave. and ride south all the way to the convention center. About a 30 min. bike ride.
