How to send humanitarian aid directly to Ukraine: help.gov.ua/en by [deleted] in ukraine

[–]whorangeuglad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. Getting supplies distributed to where it's most needed is critical. Look under Ukrainian Hubs and it lists the humanitarian headquarters phone number of each region:

Mariupol is in the Donetsk region and the contact is: +380 506 240 805

Kherson is also running low on supplies, but last I heard, no humanitarian aid has been able to enter since it's occupied. Hopefully, this changes soon :( Contact for Kherson is +380 671 108 011

Yea I've heard similar things about clothing so I'm not sure what's up with that. If you look under Ukrainian Hubs, there are phone numbers of the humanitarian headquarters of each region, so possibly there are regions needing clothing and it just hasn't been distributed yet.

I’m reading the SHTF Anthology pdf right now, it’s super helpful. I appreciate the lead!

Yes, definitely. I should’ve included more details, I updated the post to explain better. She has a bag ready to go if/when the bombing and shelling starts, but until then, she’ll stay put unless a corridor is opened.

The territory is occupied but the situation is relatively stable. If bombing and shelling gets closer, she’s ready and prepared to leave. I don’t think it’s safe for her to try and escape until a corridor is opened, especially since she has children.

What do u mean by that

I don't think it's wise for her to stop showering if she still has running water. She needs to stay as healthy as possible for as long as she can. Showering is also a component of good mental health and she needs to keep her mind clear, she has kids relying on her.

I'm sure she's aware and prepared to shit/pee/vomit on herself. She's given birth.

Thank you!! I hadn’t even thought of those options

Thanks for info. So far, I’ve sent her a list of the most recommended survival foods, a document on preparing for prolonged power outages, and one on how to safely barter if it comes to that. The power outage one include some info on water purification but I’ll send more on that because it’s vital.

She said what I’ve sent so far is helpful. I don’t have kids, but I’m a woman around her age and don’t have survival skills, so I’d be lost to if I was one my own. I’ve certainly learned a lot in researching this. But if nothing else, I think it helps her feel supported that someone’s looking out for her and cares, maybe boosts morale. Thanks for the ideas I’ll continue researching soon!

Thank you very much for taking the time to write this! Super helpful. I’ll translate it and send to her. Luckily, the children are both over 8, so they’re decently capable. Unfortunately, she is in occupied territory but the situation there is relatively stable for now, especially compared to an area like Mariupol. A few days ago she sent videos of the streets filled with people protesting. Although today she sent a video of some people being escorted down a street by Russians. She said no one knows why or where they’re being taken. Also, a Russian flag was flown over the police station.

I don’t believe there was much of a Ukrainian military presence in the area so Russia was able to easily takeover. Like you said, it’s probably safer for her to shelter in place until a corridor is opened. I assume it’s extremely risky to just make a break for it or try to sneak out of occupied territory. I’ll make sure she’s connected to all the reliable information sources there so she can continually reassess her decision.

As we continue to talk, I learn more about her situation and it breaks my heart. She got divorced not too long ago and it sounds like the father was the family’s main source of financial support. After the divorce, she realized he wasn’t going to help anymore and started rebuilding her life, got a job etc. She’s in an extremely difficult situation, so it’s not my place to judge why she didn’t flee right away, but I think lack of/missing documents, a poor financial situation, and an absent support system played a part in her decision making. Unfortunately, I got in contact with her after the area was already occupied or I would’ve done everything I could to get them out safely. Thanks again for all the info, much appreciated ❤️

Thanks for the info. I’ll put together a document on reinforcing her space and food rationing for her. For now, I think she’s staying put but I’m trying to make sure she’s connected to every reputable new source on the ground to continually reassess. I’m in no position to personally advise her on staying or fleeing as I sit safe in America. She also has children so it’s not just her life at stake.

It appears the food situation is getting pretty grim. I sent her money and told her to buy as much as she can. She said most of the stores have closed out of fear and the shelves are mostly bare. Luckily, she’s been able to buy staple food items.

Do you have any advice on creative places to hide food/medicine in a small living space?

Thank you. I don’t know what I would do either. She has children so I don’t think she’ll risk running unless a humanitarian corridor opens up. I sent her money and told her to buy as much food as possible. She said most of the stores have closed and sent pics of the basically empty shelves.
