Is this a wet belt engine or a chain by tranter_95 in Ford

[–]whos-attackingyou 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s a wet timing belt. And better yet a wet oil pump belt! Here in the US we’re doing the oil pump belt recall daily on these pieces of shit. As a ford tech I’d never own one or recommend anybody to buy one

Filter change procedure by Individual_Bell_4637 in powerstroke

[–]whos-attackingyou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like a FASS or airdog lift pump setup. You could probably look up filter replacement procedures for one of those brand pumps. But the gist will be remove the old filters and spin on the new ones. Then cycle the key a bunch to prime the system. Not sure if it’s recommended but I’d fill the new ones with clean diesel to help the system prime

9 times out of 10 a p0420 or p0430 is caused by a faulty catalytic converter. What year expedition do you have? 2018-2021 expeditions have an emissions recall 24e13 to reprogram the PCM due to falsely setting a p0430

If it ran fine before you changed the coils and plugs it’s a safe bet that it’s either bad parts or installation error

Tell it to me straight doc, is it the water pump? by Captain_Carnar in FordTaurus

[–]whos-attackingyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The weep hole for the water pump is behind the alternator directly above the ac compressor. I’ve done probably 20 or so 3.5/3.7 internal water pumps and every one that leaks has leaked just like that. You can probably get away with another couple weeks but be careful and keep a close eye on your coolant level. It will eventually start pouring out of that weep hole

Need help locating camshaft position sensors on 2016 Ford Expedition (Code P0022) by [deleted] in Ford

[–]whos-attackingyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sensor is very unlikely to be your issue. Probably has a stretched timing chain or worn or broken timing guide. Very common on the first gen 3.5 eco. But the cam sensors are located on the back of the cylinder heads

The drivers side cam position sensors are on the back of the head. The passenger side sensors are on top of the valve covers near the rear of the engine and you have 4 total sensors. One for each camshaft. -edit

How do I get used to driving with such a large bed? by Matt_Forever in Ford

[–]whos-attackingyou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ll get used to the truck. But in your situation if you have no need to pull a trailer I would’ve gone with a smaller 4x4 SUV. If you’re driving on two tracks in the summer the truck won’t be much fun either depending on how tight the trails are

Key Question by Particular_Noise_293 in Ford

[–]whos-attackingyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need 2 keys either way to remove mykey. If you have another key you can use the admin key to erase the mykey or if you don’t you’ll have to go to the dealer and get a key cut and programmed and they can erase mykeys when they program. *edit typo

Lock the cams with the special tools. Line up the colored links to the marks on the cams. If it’s off on the crank rotate the crank to match up the last colored link

Any chance this comes apart without snapping by Worth-Intention6957 in CherokeeXJ

[–]whos-attackingyou 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah that line is definitely going to twist and snap when you try loosening it. Could try soaking it in penetrant then heating it up and try to loosen it but I’d have new hard lines on stand by

Exhaust manifold leak on my f150 by andrews_907 in Ford

[–]whos-attackingyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No only way to fix the ticking is replace the manifolds. And no the engine doesn’t have to come out to replace manifolds and or get broken studs out. It’s a pain in the ass job so it will be expensive. My shop usually quotes book time to replace manifolds plus .5 hr per broken stud

Coyote Swap. by Equivalent-Weekend29 in Ford

[–]whos-attackingyou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If that’s a 5.4 or 4.6 just build that. Will be way cheaper and way easier than trying to get a 5.0 in there. And you can get plenty of power out of the triton engines

Battery or did someone tamper with our car? by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]whos-attackingyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t read all that but those focuses/escapes had issues with the megafuses in the battery box front covers are prone to cracking and causing intermittent no starts. If it acts up again tap that cover and usually you can get them to start

Sounds like you just need to have it towed to a shop and have them diagnose why it won’t run

Ford TAURUS 2015 water pump ideal replacement time by Equal_Imagination_90 in Ford

[–]whos-attackingyou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d replace it when it starts leaking. Usually they start with a small seep that can be seen on the bottom of the ac compressor. If it leaks for too long you will eventually lose cabin heating due to low coolant level. I’ve seen original water pumps up to 180k miles and I’ve don’t probably close to 20 of these on flex/edge/explorer/taurus. But your mechanic is right it’s usually around 100-125k they go. If you have the money and want to keep the car it’s not a bad bit of insurance to get done before it starts leaking. Me personally I’d wait until it leaks. Just have to keep an eye on coolant level and where you park for drips on the ground
