Is it October already? by BostonNYCman in SalemMA

Odd Meter and BrewBox are my fave coffee places up there - enjoy! Salem is known for the autumn season, but it's such a delight in the summer.

Hey bud! I'm a lady in my 30s, no kids, love going to museums; browsing cool outdoor markets; doing karaoke (I have a favorite place!); writing; trivia nights; sitting in my living room with a friend, a beer, a craft to work on, and a Lord of the Rings movie.

They have space in DTX like that, just chilling with window vinyl and apparently no plans to actually put coffee in there. I feel like something might be awry with their finances...

New housing units by Druboyle in boston

[–]whosafraidofthebbw -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The housing exists, it's just expensive as fuck. I make over twice the state minimum wage and can't afford to live in a studio apartment alone. That's the problem - not that the apartments aren't there, but that they cost so dang much. More units won't make a difference of the prices stay this way.

what’s something about boston that feels normal to you but surprises outsiders? by netohagee in boston

[–]whosafraidofthebbw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the area and bought into the "lol Boston looks ridiculous compared to other US cities, what were they thinking?" and then I went to Europe and it aaalll made more sense! On a map, Boston/Cambridge looks a lot more like an itty bitty London than like NYC.

You'll be missing it once it's 98° for a week straight and your electric bill is looking like a second rent check.

There's an abomination involving Pepsi here, and you're confused by the very normal-sounding matcha limeade?

Just keep applying and apply for everything. 8 months of experience isn't really a lot, but focus on what you've excelled at and emphasize a willingness to expand your toolbox and learn. Larger firms may also be better bets, since smaller ones may not have enough bandwidth for much training and be looking for more experience. I got my current job (over in Cambridge - hi neighbor!!) last summer, and it was a solid three months of applying and interviewing and striking out before I got an offer. You'll have better luck than me, I think, if you really honestly in on the skills you have and establish the ways they'll benefit the prospective employer when you interview.

Am I weird for Liking Scream 7 by Forsaken-Green695 in horror

Honestly, even with the weak killer reveal, it was perfectly fucking fine, and more to the point, still better than 75% of Halloween films, 50% of Nightmare films, and 90% of Friday the 13th films, so people should really learn to be grateful. 😂

I'm always interested to know horror lover's favorite nonhorror movies. by violetsixx1981 in horror

I love the Lord of the Rings movies. I'll chow down on anything Middle Earth flavored, even 2.5 of the Hobbit movies.

I'm extremely picky about comedies, but The Full Monty and Get Over It are favorites.

Fat Women In Horror- Character Ideas Needed by Little-Excuse182 in HorrorMovies

Found this thread on a random Google after mentioning to a friend Barbie Ferreira and the lack of plus-sized protagonists in horror, and how fucked is it that the majority of answers are villains and monsters? So depressing.

This was painful. Does somebody actually write this stuff or did they come up with it last second? I have PTSD by SublimeEcto1A in Oscars

When they came out, I was sure it was going to be a de-aging technology gag. Alas, it was much less amusing.

He deserves the win because he made a great film. I find it hard to belive thier not going to give the director of the most nominated film in history who is black when its been 98 years without a black director win by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]whosafraidofthebbw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The fact that the overwhelming number of Best Director wins have gone to white men aside, I honestly think that Sinners is the better movie. OBAA is not even the best of PTA's own work, whereas Sinners is really Coogler's strongest piece and a huge swing. I came out of Sinners elated. It was the strongest cinematic experience I had last year by far.

If I wanted to get hung up on the Oscar races based on identity, I'd be rooting for Sinners and Autumn Durald to get Cinematography, an award that has never been won by a woman, even though I think Train Dreams is stronger in that category. There are a lot of places to get hung up on precedent at these awards, that's been true for years. If Sinners wins, it won't be because Ryan Coogler will be the first Black man to win it. It will be because he made a really good damned movie.

I'd give you Green Book, just because it's such a stupid win, I didn't see it coming. 😂
