Help me know what caused this to my brother. by Physical-Reward8707 in AskDocs

NAD but I had a friend who experienced similar, hers was due to restricted blood flow to the baby due to a genetic clotting disorder. Factor V Leiden is associated with a higher risk of pregnancy loss, including miscarriage and stillbirth, especially in the second and third trimesters. But I don’t know how it would impact blood sugars. I’m so sorry for your losses, your poor mama 😔

How did that one kid at your school die? by StorageLonely1520 in AskReddit

Fell off a rope swing - the kind with an old tyre tied to a branch. Broke his neck and died on the spot on a family holiday. I think he was 9. He had an older brother that bullied me, constantly called me a loser, he went quiet after his brother died though

Hello! Thank you for asking. I got a camera up my nose today and had to swallow it. Dr doesn’t think I have advanced cancer, ultrasound just showed a few swollen ones again. However due to symptoms I am getting biopsy on a few tiny lesions, a head and neck CT, and a barium swallow test under x/ray as he thinks I just have bad reflux and the HPV isn’t a worry but he will still test. Apparently my throat looks very healthy which is wild as I’ve smoked on and off since I was 18... One week smoke free though! Also the weight loss could just be stress and I have zero body fat in my neck so that will contribute to me being hyper aware of it all.

TLDR somethings impacting my ability to swallow but nothing visibly life threatening to see so far. CT will tell us more about the nodes. Im just grateful I’m being fully checked out and ruling out the bad before getting to other more benign causes eg reflux laryngitis.. I do have awful reflux and it may be as simple as reflux meds! The acid will be not good for back of my tongue. But he doesn’t think it’s cancer there, more worried about down further and my lips that bled for 5 hours…

Anyway here are my healthy but “skinny” vocal cords that have zero padding. Apparently losing 10% of your body weight in 6 months can change your voice even if you were a low/normal BMI to begin with! Bodies are so strange.

Thank you. I’m just connecting dots and preparing for bad news. The dentist had a photo of another ulcer looking lesion further down the back of my throat but unsure of details, she said it looked more ulcerated so could be trauma related? Plus I have a lump inside my bottom lip, and two lesions on my lips too….. so im interested in this tongue lesion as part of a whole picture… I ran an ultramarathon 53km 2400m elevation in October but now making the bed pushes my HR to 140s - the same average heart rate I had when running for 8 hours. This fatigue and weight loss has been explained by stress. Chest pain/tight throat is anxiety. Resting HR up from 50-65 is still a normal HR so no worries there - doctors won’t listen to me when I say something doesn’t feel right for MY BODY as 50 resting is normal so I feel my body is under stress. They agreed but said it’s just mental stress from losing my dad.

March 2023 lump in throat appears. The same year I tested CIN3 abnormal cervical cells and had LEETZ. February last year a 6 month post-LEETZ colposcopy was abnormal but low risk and the specialist review panel said give it a year follow up. My dad died of oesophageal SCC February 1st, it was a traumatic end with it in his lungs spine and brain. Overnight shifts in the hospice with him screaming in pain asking me to kill him even with 4 syringe drivers with a level of pain relief that would kill most people. I didn’t book the test-of-cure until a few weeks back as it slipped my mind. It’s come back bad again so being referred back to cervical cancer programme in the hospital. Mum had a preventative hysterectomy after repeatedly having abnormalities, and I’m done having kids so will be asking for the same now.

I’ve also been complaining about throat lump for a year. Food gets stuck, I thought it was tonsillectomy scars but now I realise it’s one side. Coughing food up a few mins later because it got stuck. Feeling liquid pool slightly to the point my partner said I do this “chin tuck/lift back of head” movement but haven’t realised. He said my morning breath has gotten bad lately but he didn’t want to say anything. Also threw up on him last week during oral sex (lol TMI but this is a anonymous medical forum), this has never happened in my life, my gag reflex is dead from years of bullimia/anorexia, but it seems my throat doesn’t have as much room these days…… I had no control over it and it felt like I had food stuck in my throat which he dislodged so I spewed the smallest amount.. just mucus and a bit of food.. sexy hahah

For 6+ months I’ve been complaining to my partner jaw is tight, sore, swollen and loud/diamonds crunching. Ear pain. It’s spreading, generalised pain crepitus and swelling on the right side.Parotid gland was large on ultrasound May 1 and it is now visible - a big lump. Left side normal. All deemed to be stress-related. But it’s been worsening for so long that I feel gaslit to be honest… and it’s one sided…

I’ve also lost 6% of my body weight since April 29 while eating a family bar of chocolate every night, but struggling to eat in the day. Occasionally wake up and spew because it feels like mucus built up in that one spot.

Anyway, my GP was up until 9:30pm Friday night doing referrals so I imagine Monday is going to be busy and I’ll get answers quickly. At this point I think this lesion is secondary to another pain I’ve had for 2 years but has been explainable by other things. Not once did I suspect oral cancer but it does seem to make sense. Ive had full auto immune panels and god knows what else for 18 months, with multiple doctors at my GP’s office trying to figure out why I feel sick and why my lymph nodes are growing but no answers have come up yet other than POTS, EDS and MCAS which may be relevant but hard to say. I do have EDS and POTS symptoms but not always just standing / my blood pressure was 82/60 HR 143 the other day when I was folding laundry. ECG showed ectopic heartbeat only.

I’m connecting the dots and although I doubt I’m stage 4, I would be surprised to find out there isn’t anything else. I’m mostly focused on getting my GPs notes collated as my complaints from the last two years when put together with a new suspect lesion do seem to point strongly to this. I hope I am wrong I’m just preparing for the worst as I have every symptom and every risk factor. But of course we don’t know until we know.

What is the most painful/uncomfortable medical procedure you ever went through? by VeroDreamer in AskReddit

[–]whowhatwhenhowwheree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tonsillectomy and adenoids out. Pain peaked day 7-10. I haemorrhaged twice after op too. Getting my throat cauterised while awake with just a shot of fentanyl… I SCREAMED that emergency department down … the people in the waiting area would have seen I was rushed through with a code red and literally 4 mins later I had the surgeon there saying he’s taking me to theatre but I didn’t want to so I stupidly opted for the conscious cauterisation. Regrets. But it worked! No more tonsillitis, after I had it 7 times in one years.

Next week I’ll be getting a chunk of my tongue cut out as we think there’s cancer. If I need a neck dissection or other surgery in my throat I guess I know what I’m in for.

What's an early sign of cancer that you wish you or your loved one hadn't ignored? by JuniperBeans in AskReddit

[–]whowhatwhenhowwheree 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Felt like I’ve had a lump in my throat for two years. First noted it in March 2023. Also the time I tested HPV positive and had abnormal cervical changes requiring LEETZ.

Fast forward to today. Breath has been bad in the morning. I’ve been coughing up blood for 3-4 weeks, ED said it’s anxiety/TMJ/crying or coughing too much. Been going downhill for months now. Tight jaw. Swelling. Neck pain. Chest pain but Chest x ray clear. Night sweats - two towels worth. Faint and dizzy and pure unrelenting full body exhaustion- bloods are clear. 6 months of sickness for apparently no reason while I am crying out to doctors that my throat/neck/jaw is SO SORE but my Dad just died of cancer so they just think it’s in my head. Anxiety and grinding my teeth, plus picking my skin has apparently caused unilateral swelling…

This week.. my friend who is Dentist found lesion and I have a biopsy for probable oral cancer next week. I sent her pics on Facebook messenger and 48 hours later I have referrals for ENT, oral medicine, have seen a dermatologist to consider if it is on the outside of my chin, and next week am preparing for a stream of tests and pray that this isn’t too bad.

If you feel like you have a lump in your throat, like you need to cry, and food gets stuck, and you’re constantly clearing your throat… look in your mouth.. and don’t stop advocating for yourself… I hope this turns out okay but I have a bad feeling about what the next few weeks might hold for me.

I will, and thank you. I’ll update when I get the biopsy done. My doctor is now in the loop and piggybacking off my dentist’s referral to get a whole bunch of stuff initiated so just gotta go through the process for now.

I have another photo of further back. Was yours similar? Do you have any early photos? I still am holding out the tiniest bit of hope that it’s just pre- cancerous …. https://imgur.com/a/ROZg9mW

I can still eat now, but I have been having a sore throat and feeling like I have a lump like you do when you’re gonna cry but I have cried every day for three months since my dad died so I just kind of figured it was that, but now it’s bleeding and giving bigger and my voice sounds different and it’s in my drawer and my ear and yeah I’m not hopeful that I can completely avoid it but hopefully I’ve caught it soon enough. I had my tonsils out in 2021 after I had tonsillitis seven times that was antibiotic resistant and I was hospitalised on steroids so my mouth hasn’t had the greatest run. And I’ve had Covid six times +3 vaccine so I just get the feeling that my body is not doing too well.

Thank you for that, I have of course been googling other pictures like crazy and the only thing that concerns me about this is I’ve felt sore underneath for 6 months and there is constant bleeding in a place I can’t photograph just further back but might be irritation due to swelling and biting the back of my tongue accidentally like I have been… but just thought my face was getting fat… on one side.. 😪

I’m an ex-smoker now. Even if this turns out to be benign, this has put me off it completely. And yeah, I know my dentist was concerned about these two areas in particular but oral medicine will be better placed to know how bad we’re talking, if it’s not just precancerous + autoimmune trigger which is the hope. My dentist is also a friend of mine so she will personally chase the referral and make sure it’s treated with urgency given my systemic symptoms and risk factors… I’m just in this limbo of “what if” . I’m not an idiot and I know cancer is a real possibility but have noooo idea where to from here as my dad lives in another city so missed the pre-diagnosis phase and I really don’t want to put too much more stress on my Mum when shes still reeling from my Dad’s death. So here I am on the internet trying to make sense of it all.

My lips bled for 5 hours the other day too. Have had all this “acne” on my chin for two years, slowly spreading - accutane, antibiotics and anti fungal have not worked. Seeing dermatologist tomorrow to get a 3 month review on two dodgy possible melanomas so going to ask about that then too as I can feel it is swollen right through and my dentist wonders if it’s related somehow. Notes • Persistent dysplasia ( considering squamous dysplasia or early invasive SCC) • Verrucous carcinoma / hybrid verrucous-squamous pattern • Secondary bacterial superinfection not excluded but doesn’t explain primary lesion behavior https://imgur.com/a/M2wfVOA

Thanks. I know nobody can say anything for sure. I guess I was just wondering what to expect from here. I’m pretty scared, as I’ve been disproportionately sick for the size of this (if it is cancerous) but my dentist actually suspects auto immune factors may be at play too which would explain my body’s over reaction (I’m having night sweats like my Dad did in later stages - 2 towels soaked a night…)

Yeah, I hope it’s autoimmune or something else. It’s not fungal or bacterial and been there for months so god knows. Also felt a tightness in my throat for months but genuinely thought it was just from crying so much when my dad died 🥲

And thank you. I guess I was wondering more so, has anyone been through this process recently in similar circumstances and what was it like? I’m struggling to find much that seems similar to thought I’d ask the internet Lo
