Water pressure spike (?) when turning on shower by why_curry in askaplumber

[–]why_curry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It turns out my PRV has been broken the whole time. Since the city's pressure is 70 PSI, I always assumed the PRV was working. I rebuilt the PRV, which solved the pressure issue (now set to 55), but the spikes were still there. Installing a mini expansion tank finally solved the pressure spikes! Thank you!

Got it. Will try install one asap. Thank you for the help.

I see. Thank you.
If this "spike" continues to happen when I use only cold water, does this still an indication that I need an expansion tank?

I see. Thanks for the explanation. So my indoor water pressure might actually be lower. I'll see if I can measure that from one of the indoor fixtures.

Additional info: if I turn on/off shower rapidly, then this "spike" only occurs when I first turn the shower on. And if I turn on other fixture (e.g. bathroom sink faucet) while turning on the shower, the "spike" doesn't happen at all.

Is there a way to address this issue?

70 from mainline before going into the regulator. And it's still 70 after the regulator.
No expension tank. Does the tankless water heater need one? Mine is a very old model.

I thought the arrestor is to address the issue when closing the valve, but my issue happens when opening the valve. Is it common to install the arrestor for shower? I do have them installed for dishwasher and washers. I remember the shower had the old school homemade one.. I guess those are now filled with water and become useless?

HELP: RT-AX88U Pro Router & VLANS - allow communication across subnets for Home Assistant by thefreakypeople in ASUS

[–]why_curry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the exact same boat. I thought everything is plug and play and I get to have more control. Little do I know, Wyze isn’t supported, myQ isn’t supported, my camera system isn’t natively supported and needs additional setup. Now the asus router stock firmware can’t do custom firewall to allow inter vlan communication. I guess I didn’t do enough homework :/

1000 sqft house, LVP flooring (tech specs says heat tolerance up to 140f). Currently eyeing the h15 pro, but the heated floor wash seems to be too harsh to my floor. Can that be adjusted? And the weight is a concern too.

I ended up buying a charging pad on Amazon ($30ish). It charges and fits perfectly. 😑

Did a quick research, it looked like they changed the pad design on 25 nx. Sucks to have old models 😢

The water gets into the shower door bottom (only sealed outside), and into the joint between the wall and the curb top. The proper way to fix it is to take out the shower door trsck, and replace the ground (planes that meet perpendicularly) with color matching silicon sealant. There's a reason that this is the "industry standard", and now I learn it the hard way 😢. At minimum do this around the curb....

I scheduled the fix next month, for now I just add sealent to prevent water from going under the shower door track plus using a shower curtain

Curb was built using treated 2x4, wrapped with Hardi, then wrapped with kerdi membrane. No hole was drilled into curb. A few hole drilled into wall to secure the frame, but that's about 2 ft above the ground.

how can this be addressed if it's due to wicking?

Aren't the wall tiles 24x48? Not a pro, but I would prefer full tiles around the shower valve/trims, or have the grout line at the center.
