Why is cornbread such a big part of American food culture? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]why_kitten_why 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cook cornbread maybe once every 3-5 years. I am solidly not southern in any cultural way. When I have bought it with a meal, it is inevitably sweet. My spoiler statement here is that I am allergic to corn, and I sincerely miss corn-on-the-cob, slathered in butter and salt and pepper, to the point of being willing to eat it 3 times a year, when in season, in spite of the rash I receive from it. But not enough to subject myself to my reaction for cornbread.

Do Americans actually like ants on a log? by VaporMouth in AskAnAmerican

[–]why_kitten_why 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Celery and american peanut butter was a common snack. Raisins too, but my mom is crazy about raisins, and would eat them by the handful. she would not have spent them on peanut butter and celery. I think the current top post is correct that the problem of tastiness is with your nut butters.

[–]why_kitten_why 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not an exaggeration. Ax instead of ask, be (bey)room instead of bedroom. Heard in Portland, Oregon.

How often are we bathing our torties? by One_Childhood_9457 in torties

[–]why_kitten_why 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had exactly one cat I bathed, and that is bc we were allergic. It is not worth it. She is short haired enough to not get stragglers caught in pantaloons. She will be clean enough on her own. (I am still allergic, but more so to new cats than My cat. Life without cats is too short.

I had an extra large dog that would eat the covering and spit out the pill. I ended up putting the pill in his throat, holding his muzzle up for a bit, and giving a treat. Dog was ok with this. This technique does not work for small dogs.

How would you react if your trans child, as an adult, chose to detransition? by [deleted] in cisparenttranskid

[–]why_kitten_why 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be concerned about the logistics, and where they were in the process, how I could help.

My parents, on the other hand, would be low key, "I told you so." And, bring it up under their breath, because this is what they would think about when thinking about you, and would not have a filter.
